Mangalore, Apr 2: "My political career graph has been on the rise ever since I joined BJP and it is mainly because of the support and encouragement received by party members," said former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda who was recently appointed as the national vice-president of BJP.

He addressed the gathering at the district office on Tuesday April 2 during his first press meet after being appointed to the post.

DVS said that he was part of the party initially when he used to stick posters on the wall. "Having come from a small village, I did not expect that I would grow to such a great extent. It is only in BJP that an ordinary person can grow to such a great level," he said.

"You only need to handle things when you take up higher positions and rest senior leaders will guide you," added the former chief minister.

Commenting on the upcoming Assembly elections, he said, "It is a great challenge for us and it will also be a preparation for the general elections in 2014."

Admitting that the party did not work efficiently for the first three years, DVS said it was mainly because of Yeddyurappa who he said worked for personal benefits rather than for the party. "During this period, various allegations were levelled against BJP because of Yeddyurappa," he said.

"Later, during my 11 months reign as chief minister, I ruled the state sincerely without any corruption charges and the same was followed by Shettar’s government too. Overall, in 2 years we have given good administration and developed the state well," he said.

"I feel so proud to hold the position of national BJP vice-president which was earlier managed effectively by great persons like Jagannath Joshi and K S Hegde," he added.

He lauded the district party members for all their support and assured that he would give his best to the party.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district president Padmanabh Kottary also spoke on the occasion. They lauded D V Sadananda Gowda for being appointed as the national vice-president of BJP and thereby bringing fame to the district.

Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of state Assembly, MLA Krishna Palemar, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Puttur MLA Mallika Prasad, Pratap Sinha Nayak, Sulochana GK Bhat, Monappa Bhandary, Nagaraj Shetty among others were present.

Shri Sadananda Gowda is right man in wrong party like Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He is a loyalist no doubt and will stick to BJP. But he knows his clean and secular image is famous among the people.

He is pro-Hindu by being a good Hindu unlike some who think pro-Hindu means to abuse minorities. In his short 11 months, he did more for the state than Yeddy had done.

In any case DVS has no room in mainstream politics as well as BJP. He himself has written his political obituary by not using any opportunity that the people gave him to prove his ability and that he has done pretty nothing for the Coastal people in particular.

What was DVS doing for the first three years. Everyone knows that he was behind Yeddyurappa all those three years. Nobody including National and State leaders ever thought or wanted DVS to be Chief Minister. After Yeddyurappa the choice for National leaders would have been either Jadish Shettar or Ishwarappa. Without pressure of Yeddyurappa they would never had made him CM. Before getting CM post he was always in favour of Yeddyurappa but after getting CM post he suddenly makes a U turn and start talking in favour of National leaders and State leaders.

Yes, compared to DVS Yeddi is better. In last Assembly election BJP got half of the votes only because of Yeddi, and even in the ensuing election Yeddi will wean away atleast 30% of the Votes from BJP. Can DVS divert any votes from other parties towards BJP to compensate this Yeddi factor ?

Its a party time for newly elected national BJP vice-president,were he says-"You only need to handle things when you take up higher positions and rest senior leaders will guide you," added the former chief minister.Yes it is indeed an irony of sorts that when Mr. gowda ex-cm of Karnataka publicly made a statement justifying the rave party, which was a slap on the moral brigade of the state. The ex-CM said that such celebrations were needed to promote tourism in the coastal belt.when you say so, the party will not only nourish you but will cherish and give you blemish.

About one thing positive about DVS is that, it was during his Chief ministership our Catholic boys languishing in Jails for protesting against church attacks were released and the cases against them were cancelled. Yeddy repeatedly promised to Christian Leaders and Bishops etc about releasing our boys and there was no action taken. BUT Mr. DVS was the one who took personal interest in the topic and the matter was resolved as soon as he became Chief Minister.
I feel we have to be Rational in our opinions.
That is the only reason I can say, he is one of the good leaders in a Bad Party.
Hats off to you Mr DVS, you have done what you can do to us Christians of Mangalore.

As far as VP considered, there are more than dozens of VPs in BJP and Congress !!! It is just accommodating individuals for the political purpose. Now Karnataka has election so DVS may do something in the name of VP!!! Do you think it is on merit? Once denied KMF chairman went on become CM of this state mainly due to BSY! Rest is history.
