Udupi: Miscreants pelt stones at mosque; assault man

Udupi, Apr 3: A group of miscreants pelted stones at Jumma Masjid at Nejaru here late night on Tuesday April 2, breaking the window panes and partly damaging a wall.

Additional police teams have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.

It is said that a similar incident took place at the Masjid on November 26, 2008 during the time of Mumbai terror attack but no action has been taken so far in this regard.

In another incident, Iqbal (30) was allegedly attacked by a group of 20 persons while he was returning home after attending a 'Mehndi' function in Kelanejaru. The incident took place around 10:30 pm on Tuesday.

Iqbal who was beaten up badly by the miscreants with a rod is now admitted to district government hospital. Iqbal later said that the miscreants left the place telling him that they would also beat up his two other friends Umar and Riyaz. However, there is no mention of the threat in the police complaint.

In connection to the attack, police arrested Sathish Nayak, gram panchayat president along with Praveen and Prashanth. The arrested are said to be the activists of Sangh Parivar as well as from BJP. It is learnt that four other accused are absconding.

Malpe PSI Jayant M told Daijiworld said that the miscreants who attacked Iqbal were returning from the same function, and were drunk. After assaulting Iqbal, they stopped near the mosque and pelted stones. However, the assault on Iqbal is said to be out of an old rivalry and has no connection with the attack on the mosque. More details will be revealed only after the investigation, police said.

A case has been registered in the Malpe police station.

    Shame on the perpetrators of such desecrating acts!!!Worst kind of atrocity of attacking places of worship considered most sacred by the respective communities, to fulfil their vested interests, highly condemnable act!! These incidents surfacing at a very high rate day after day shows the level of wisdom of the so called "highly educated" people of DK as is alway portrayed!! Repeated incidents of such sorts is acting as a big deterrent to the people/businessmen/budding entrepreneurs who would be waiting to set shop here!!

    Repeated such incidents demonstrate that there are big group of trouble makers with lots of free time and assisting funds available to commit such atrocities and develop tense situations for the Aam Aadmi!!

    I do not understand, in what way, when people say DK has developed, come and settle here, any single plus point versus other upcoming cities like Pune/Ahmedabad/New Mumbai/Gurgaon/Virar-Dahanu and many more!!

    Being a staunch lover of DK till a few years ago, considering all this nuisance, I do not have a single plus point for anyone to settle down here except hype and hoopla!!

    The Sangh Parivar's development agenda is, to create communal disturbances and turmoil at different peaceful places by damaging mosque and church properties, assault the innocent practicing-religious victims and fish in the troubled water for VOTE BANK. What a shame on these cowards, they can stoop to any level to create vote bank. It is a shame on such right wing political outfit.
    They forgot that they are attacking the Muslims that are the second largest population of India and the world as well as Christians that is the largest population in the world. If such govt rule the country will they have any goodwill from the nations around the world? NEVER!

    I am repeating my experience and suggestion that police firing on unruly mobs will definitely bring the goons to their knees as it happened in Bhatkal. Now there are no communal disturbances in Bhatkal since 20 years.

    Because of strictly order of Supreme Court against Advani, Kalyan Singh and Oma Bharti culprits want to take revenge, but remember it is Supreme Court not a ordinary court, action must be taken against the culprits who threw the stones on Jumma Masjid at Nejaru at the same time any one can help to catch the absconders to get a Heaven in the Court of ALLAH.
