Accident near Bhatkal - Mother, child killed as tanker hits bike

Bhatkal, Apr 4: In yet another tragic accident on Thursday April 4, a woman and her child when the two-wheeler they were riding on was hit by a tanker.

The accident took place near Ganjigeri near Manki on NH 66, about 25 km from Bhatkal.

The deceased have been identified as Parvati Gowda (29) and her 2-year-old daughter Nikita, residents of Ganjigeri.

Parvati's husband Dharma Gowda who was riding the bike escaped with minor injuries. It is said that his helmet saved him.

Eyewitnesses said that the tanker was trying to overtake a lorry and rammed into Dharma's bike. Though Dharma turned towards the edge of the road to avoid a collision, he could not succeed.

Dharma was taken to Honnavar hospital.

The family was on its way to Honnavar hospital from Gunvanti by bike when the accident took place.

The bodies were shifted to Manki government hospital.

Honnavar circle inspector Manjunath Gowda visited the spot.

A case has been registered in the Honnavar police station.
