Mangalore, Apr 6: Supporters of Congress leader Ivan D'Souza on Saturday April 6 held a protest against their others leaders Janardhan Poojary, Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily, the high command and against entrepreneur Ronald Colaco for not granting party ticket to Ivan D’Souza in the upcoming legislative body election.

The protest was held on Saturday in front of the district Congress office.

The supporters who gathered shouted slogans against the higher leaders and alleged that the party ticket had been 'sold' for money.

Former mayor Ashraf said that Ivan D’souza is the one who has worked for the welfare of the party. "He was the one who has capacity to unite a large number of youth and build the party and make it strong and steady," he said.

"The 'Trimurthies' of Congress, Janardhan Poojary, Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily have caused injustice to the genuine and hard working party workers. Ivan D’Souza has to be the next MLA candidate," he urged.

He further questioned the high command on the reasoning behind granting an election seat for J R Lobo.

The protestors also burnt an effigy of Ronald Colaco.

Around 20 people including Mithun Rai, Amruth V Kadri, Praveen Chandra Alva, Ashith Periera, Meryll Rego, Milad Attavar and others took part in the protest.

In a statement to Daijiworld, Ronald Colaco gave the following clarification on the matter:

"It has been brought to my notice that Ivan D'Souza and a few of his supporters have burnt my effigy and have accused for having paid money to secure the seat for J R Lobo. This might have been done probably out of sorrow for not getting the Assembly election ticket for Mangalore. As far as I know that those involved in selection of candidates for Karnataka Assembly Election such as Dr Parameshwar, Siddaramaiah, Veerappa Moily, Oscar Feranndes, Janardana Poojary and Luizinho Feleiro are known to have very clean image of non-corruption.

"I would like to state that I can afford to provide only bus and railway tickets to others and not the Assembly tickets, if the tickets are sold for money as it has been accused of. People at large very well know that since 1983, I have allocated certain portion of my NRI income to the causes of poor, social and charitable purposes and certainly not for political purposes.

"All along I have been a well wisher of Ivan D'Souza and instrumental in convincing the centre and state leaders to allocate ticket for the last Assembly Election. Even now I continue to be Ivan D'Souza's supporter and make all efforts to secure proper political position in the state since he is a dynamic leader. The decision has been taken by a number of leaders of all communities, religious leaders, intellectuals, educationists, first line and second line political leaders to promote J R Lobo for his sincerity, hard work and regional developmental works who has served in the very Assembly Constituency for long period of time, as he was the Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, Special DC (HQA), Joint Director of KUDCEMP, Executive Director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama having vast experience of serving the people of this region which can have better chance of winning the Assembly seat.

"In this regard we have made our sincere efforts to convince Ivan D'Souza not to contest Assembly seat but opt for other political position which are available in the Congress Party. Therefore, I continue to pursue with more state and central leaders to consider Ivan D'Souza for suitable political position in the days ahead."

Instead, if things went very well for the Congress in Karnataka, I personally feel he had a chance of becoming an MLC. I see no chance for him now after all this cheap stuff incl. burning of Ronald Colaco's effigy. This is done by cheap and uneducated / undignified people.

Good job by Congress by not giving ticket to Ivan, and the congressmen should be united rather protesting. Work for the party and not for the individuals. All participants are paid by Ivan. Some of them are BJP workers as well. Rs. 500 each for the day just with bottle of beer and kori sukka in the evening. Right decision by Congress, Ivan does not deserve the ticket. He can serve the people without becoming MLA as well if he is really want to serve the people.Ivan D'souza is the leader of the auto and bus drivers union only. Mr. J.R.Lobo is now a leader of the masses. There is also a big difference in statesmanship between the two.If Ivan D'souza is confident of winning the election let him contest as an independent candidate and prove to mangalore city voters that he is leader who has proved his credentials. There is no point in sending your chelas and chamchas to shout to their top of their voice to give ticket. Create your own identity if you have that name and fame.

I am astonished to read the comment by person not other than a Doctor who says that among the protesters there are BJP people who are paid Rs.500 daily and kori sukks and beer bottle in the evening.Berane is well versed in this line!Generally the statement of a person reflects his true mindset.Though I do not have special love for BJPians after seeing their rule in Karnataka, definitely they will not stoop to the level alleged by our Doctor at least in Mangalore.....that is 100% true....I would not have any say if this comment was posted in the late evening but not in day time....!!!

This tym atleast in Dakshina Kannada d CONGRESS is almost united & gearing for a win except for some useless opportunist "Black Sheeps" like IVAN & ASHRAF.So lets ignore people like Ivan D'souza & Ashraf who have only 20 suppoters among a lakh Mangaloreans, because everyone knows that IVAN has not won even a Gram Panchayat election, and Ashraf has lost the Corporator elections in Bunder as people of their own community are against these selfish and opportunist leaders. So by looking at the comments here 99% are against these selfish people,as these people are spoiling the name of their own community.I even think frustrated IVAN is hiring his 20 supporters to mark "dislike" to all d comments posted here,o else no Mangalorean with a brain would "dislike" to these true comments which show the anger of common man against selfish politicians like IVAN who is trying to finish off each and every true leader of his own community. But as Mangaloreans do not cheat their heart the "likes" of the common man to these comments against IVAN's oppurtunism have outnumbered the "dislikes".And for IVAN's question that he was 5 years in Congress and he is denied a ticket at the cost of a new entrant J.R Lobo.Did IVAN forget he joined Congress just months before the 2008 elections and wasn't he given a ticket at the cost of other Congressmen who have worked for Congress for more than 30 years?Bt he din't make use of this opportunity & lost the elections. In 08 wen IVAN himself got a ticket jus after joining Congress, dat was fine for him,but t'day wen Mr J.R lobo hs gt a ticket jus after joining Congress this IVAN has problems. So its better not to bother about such people as there are not even 20 Christians behind IVAN and if he was granted a ticket evn Christians wouldn't have voted for this oppurtunistic man who has spoilt the name of Christianity by buring a effigy of MR COLACO a person of his own community, jus to meet his own selfish needs.Let's vote for J.R Lobo,Mangalore needs a change.

IVAN has no supporters in the Congress, look not even 30 people are supporting him.Let's not forget it was not him who left JD(S) he was dismissed from JD(S) for anti party activities. He is not a leader at all,he has never won a Gram Panchayat elections even JD(S)which did not have a base in the district needed him.Instead of spoiling the name of the Christian community and Ronald Colaco. There are better leaders in the Christian community like Naveen D'souza,Lancelot Pinto,Arun coelho who have won atleast corporator elections and are better than IVAN.If IVAN really thinks he is a leader and he has the capability to win,its better for him to join KJP or BSR (even these parties may not offer him a ticket)and stand for elections with these 30 supporters,m sure not more than 50 people would vote him, and no matter J.R LOBO would win with a majority because of his works as a able administrator in Mangalore, and the wave tilting in favour of Congress in the state.

Lets forget the Episode and work for JR Lobo's win. I am sure reading all comments Ivan too might have been feeling guilty. Mangalorean Christians never do partiality with any one. They will condemn the person who ever is guilty, doesn't matter Ivan from their own community. JR Lobo is believeing in simple living n high thinking. I hope Ivan D'Souza will change his mind and work hand in hand with Lobo. That is the need of today and that's going to happen soon. Ivan is mislead by few of his supporters. Dear Ivan
This behaviour from you is a complete shock to the entire Christian community... This attitude shows ungratefulness and selfishness in leaps and bounds....
It was the same Ronald Colaco who groomed you and extended all his support to you when you were given the Congress ticket earlier and as always the person Mr.Colaco is he still has great regards for you inspite of your act of insult...
Your future in politics depends on how much you work for the people and if your past record was good then nobody could have stopped you from getting the ticket this time too....
I request you to ponder on your past and find ways to winning the hearts of the people....My sincere advice to you is - You have a great political future and the country needs young dynamic leaders like you, so by burning the effigy of a person like Mr. Colaco you are actually burning the goodwil that people have towards you and your burning your own future.... Mr. Colaco's philathropist nature is known to all and there are thousands of poor who have benefitted from him so one act of this kind from you has blotted your own image not his..... Please dont loose your focus....

Moreover, he is a recent entrant to congress and was previously known to hobnob with Janata leaders.

Everyone in Congress knows that it was Ivan who arranged Riots in Congress Office on the day Mr J.R.Lob o and over 40 of his friends joined Congress. It was at that time Ivan had smelled that Mr J.R. Lobo is a prospective candidat e who would be preferred for the post. From then onwards Ivan has become restless. It was too cheap of him to create this racket and spoilt the congress image. Every mangalorean knows Ivans qualities. He is a cheap politician, an actor who can weep whenever he wants in front of Congress Leaders (our ancesstors said "dont believe an man who weeps") He shake hand, hugs, kisses and immediately backstabs you from behind. Of course he has some qualities of a politician - poseing for every photograph, on the stage - even if a chair is not kept for him, he will drag one and sit in front.
His supporters by shouting slogans against Congress Leaders and by burning the effigy of Mr Ronald Colaco (Stage managed by Ivan himself), have dug Ivans Political Grave. The day is not far when he will either have to join another party or he will be shown his graceful exit from Congress. Mr Ronald Colaco is universally known for his good works & charity to everyone irrespective of caste community or creed. By burning his effigy, Ivans supporters have burnt Ivans political career. Let him realise that.

Ivan D'Souza and Suresh Ballal were JD(S)members/leaders till the year 2000. Ivan tried all his stunts but realised no future with JD(S) which is why he jumped ship. In Kittal Coffee interview he says his role model is Rahul Gandhi...what a joke??? Ivan has lost 2 elections for the assembly under JD(S) and one under Congress that too very badly....he is greedy...If you have noted he stands tall and in front to get himself pictured in the photos....he goes to hospitals to distribute fruits to patients on Indira/Rajiv/Mahatma Jayanthi but does not look at the patients but looks at the photographer....Finally this is all staged by Ivan to get a honorable post (Chairman of KMF/Coastal Development Authority/ etc etc) if congress wins Govt. and get a Govt. vehicle with a red klaxon....Greedy man....The worst thing he did is organised a protest against JR Lobo's induction in to the Congress....

Burning the effigy of Sh.Ronald Colaco will not harm his image as his social activities are not based on flatter or protest of selfish people. The leaders should stop such cheap protest. Here the motto is clearly visible. Sh Ivan Dsouza could have very well stopped this protest. Do we need such people to come to power?

Leaving protest & coming in the front position for a picture what else Ivan has done to mangalore ????? He knew long back means from 2009 only he will not be given the seat this time with any cost and rather he don't have any supporters in congress so he used his Lawyer mind and caught some Youth like Mithun , Chandra Alva, Asheeth, Maril , polished them nicely gave them some post and all not because the youth should come front but only because to use them later.... This became true and now only his people whom he caught recently are doing all this useless things. J.R Lobo has done lots to mangalore by his works when he was the Commissioner. Congress and people of Mangalore should be proud to have such a well qualified person who has come forward to serve the people. I was also involved in many congress protest from 15 years that doesnt mean i ask for ticket......

It is the fate of all minorities all over the world in any democratic set up. In a limited space everyone has to jostle in.Therefore clashes take place. In India we have of course less diplomacy and more rubbings. I advice all the minorities one suggestion i.e. the government consists of three elements at least, and they are Judiciary, Legislative and Executive. Minorities should make use of judiciary and Exeutive and (even the military). If minorities compete in democratic societies for legislative element
especially where castes, religions play a role, where is the chance.... for minorities? votes are cast to religious or caste affiliations. few votes of minorities will not be counted. Therefore think about it.

I was just passing in the area while this protest was going on. All readers should know that there were less than 30 protesters. Ivan this speaks that how much unpopular you are. When you say you are a contender for MLA ticket, there should have been minimum 500 supporters with you. All readers should know that till now Ivan has lost three MLA elections. First two elections he contested from Janata Dal Kaup. Both these elections he lost being in third place. His first election 1994 he got less than 20% votes whereas in 1999 he got less than 10% votes. His defeat in 2008 elections from Mangalore was by 9000 votes which is the worst ever defeat for congress in Mangalore. He has not even won, any grama panchayat or taluk panchayat election till now in his life. He can't even win one corporator's election, such bad is his image level. I strongly condemn what he arranged to defame Shri Colaco. Mangalore society and Christian community shall never forgive Ivan for his this blunder. Shri Colaco Sir..You are always our hero. First of all our sincere “Congratulations and Best wishes to Mr. J.R. Lobo for securing the Congress ticket to contest in the forthcoming Assembly Elections.
Both Mr. Ivan D’Souza and Mr. J. R. Lobe are the two strong pillars of our society and community. We need both of them to unite and support each other in the larger interest of all of us.
Our profound thanks to Mr. Ivan D’Souza for his generosity, selflessness, sacrifice and golden heart to have made it possible for Mr. J. R. Lobo to secure the party ticket.
Same also goes to Mr. Janardhan Poojary, Mr. Oscar Fernandes, Mr. Veerappa Moily and Mr, Ronald Colaco for their Vision zeroed down in the interest of all the communities, and region at large without any self interest.
We are proud of all the above leaders for their vision, foresight and above the larger interest of people of Mangalore.
We think it is time for all of us to burry all the differences once for all and put all our efforts together and work whole-heartedly for the winning of our Candidate Mr. J. R. Lobo.
We feel this is a great Opportunity for our community to have two great leaders in the form of Mr. J.R. Lobo and Mr. Ivan D’Souza, one to become the MLA and as Mr. Ronald Colaco very rightly envisaged and determined to make Mr. Ivan D’Souza to secure MLC or other equivalent political post so that our community gains in multifold.
Let’s all forget the disappointments, bitterness, anger and work for the success of both our leaders.
Not to forget , It is unfortunate to see few handful people protesting and resorting to undesirable acts like burning of effigy etc.. It is very important for all of us to understand and realise the contributions in various forms made by Mr. Colaco and his family to the poor, deserving people of the community, irrespective of the caste, creed and religion for so long and it is evident that Mr. Colaco is only supporting the right cause for the benefit of our community, society and certainly not for his personal gains as God has blessed him and his family with a big heart to share his wealth with others in need.
Once again all the very best to both Mr. J.R. Lobo and Mr. Ivan D’Souza.

Problem with Congis is that after recent Local Body election victory they have taken it for granted that they will come to the power in the State easily. so every one wants to book in advance a share in the pie. That is why this melee for ticket. This way they are becoming a laughing stock in front of voters and also make voters cynical and go back to BJP. Nothing against J R Lobo, but why Congress decides to plant candidates from nowhere come election season and then rue they don’t have grass root workers after suffering defeat? Rahul Gandhi had asked to give priority to loyal workers when he visited Maharashtra recently. On one hand Rahul Gandhi talks about building grass root democracy at the same time Congress gives assembly ticket to someone who just joined Congress less than year ago. Now one pertinent question here: does JR Lobo have enough support in his own party? Does the party consult local existing leaders before making such appointment? We need good leaders and not just Christian leaders as tokenism. J R Lobo may yet turn out to be one such leader, but the process of giving assembly ticket lacks clarity and breeds doubts in the minds of congress workers.

Ivan D’Souza has been the face of Congress party in Mangalore. Why can’t J R Lobo work with Congress leader Ivan D’Souza and work for his win?

Denying ticket to Ivan is the worst thing done to his hard work and our “youth” icon.

It is really disgusting on their part to point fingers to a noble person like Mr. Ronald Colaco who has worked for the welfare of the society without differentiating any religion.

If these guys cannot identify the good and bad, I would say their protest is an immature behavior and they seriously need grow up.

We want a winning candidate. There is no point in being sentimental about it. Ivan too has joined the Congress in the recent years. For many years he was in the JDS. The most deserving candidate has been given the ticket and there should be no further discussion on that.

All participants are paid by Ivan. Some of them are BJP workers as well. Rs. 500 each for the day just with bottle of beer and kori sukka in the evening. Right decision by Congress, Ivan does not deserve the ticket. He can serve the people without becoming MLA as well if he is really want to serve the people.

As per congress rule, the person defeated three times in the past will not be given ticket. They have implemented the rule. Why he drag Name of Mr.R.Colaco name in his dirty games? What he so far did to the country? even to his own native village-Mudarangadi?

All stage managed. The truth will come out shortly.

Ivan D'souza is the leader of the auto and bus drivers union only. Mr. J.R.Lobo is now a leader of the masses. There is also a big difference in statesmanship between the two.
