Bangalore, Apr 11: The Konkani Catholic Association (KCA), Mathikere, one of the oldest association of Konkani Catholics settled in Karnataka’s capital of Bangalore is organizing the popular musical entertainment show, Wilfy Nite 258, in aid of its ambitious medical assistance fund project in Bangalore on June 16.

The popular musical extravaganza will be held at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall, Vyalikaval, in Bangalore on Sunday, June 16, at 5 pm.

The 258th Wilfy Nite will have popular Konkani songs of the most popular Konkani singer, song-writer, music composer, drama and short story writer, with new songs by the son of Wilfy Rebimbus, Vishwas, and daughter Veena along with some of the most popular and melodious songs of the man, loved and revered by all Konkani music lovers as `Konkan Kogul.’

An attractive feature of the Wilfy Nite musical programme is the medley of dance ensembles and comic interludes with mimicry to provide wholesome entertainment to the audience of all age groups.

While Daijiworld.Com is the media partner of the June 16 event, Brilliant Printers and Asian Trading Corporation (ATC) are the main sponsors.

The KCA Mathikere, it may be recalled, is on the threshold of celebrating its Golden Jubilee as it was established way back in 1966 mainly under the illustrious leadership of late A V Rego, A C L Peris, O J Colaco, H M Fernandes and other prominent Konkani speaking persons, who had settled in Bangalore.

Konkani Bhavan

The KCA Mathikere has the rare distinction of being the first Konkani Catholic Association in Bangalore to have its own building, Konkan Bhavan, the construction of which was started in 1979. The first phase of the building project was declared open in 1981 and the entire two-story structure was completed 1989.

The Konkan Bhavan has a spacious hall with a seating capacity for accommodating 150 persons and provides hostel facilities to youngsters. Over 1,000 persons have benefitted from the hostel accommodation provided by Konkan Bhavan over the years.

The KCA Mathikere has over 600 life members on its rolls, though the actual number of active members comprising persons residing in Bangalore is small, and the members of the association are spread throughout the world.

The KCA Mathikere has helped a large number of students through its Education Fund and also deserving persons through its Medical Assistance Fund.

A commendable move by KCA. The recent move by the konkanis for a konkani mass is long over due. Hope the authorities will heed to the long pending demand.
