Mysore: Five burnt alive, three injured - foul play suspected

Mysore, Apr 12: Five persons were charred alive after their house located in Bidi Colony here caught fire early morning on Friday April 12.

The deceased are Amir Jan (80), Farmeen (30), Rizwan (31), Arbia (5) and Aron (2). Reshma, Afroze, and Yaseen Pasha suffered grievous injuries and are being treated in a hospital.

The fire was sighted at around 3.30 am. A LPG cylinder in the house exploded, and its sound reverberated through the locality, inhabitants of which are mostly poor. Even though the neighbours tried to help the family, the flames were too strong to handle. The fire and police personnel were informed of the incident. By the time the fire brigade personnel came, five had lost their lives, while the other three survivors were shifted to a hospital.

The fact that the area smacked of kerosene has led the people to believe that miscreants had torched Amir Jan’s house. Initially it was believed that explosion of the LPG cylinder had caused the fire.

Reshma, whose condition continues to be serious, said that a person named Amir Khan, a KSRTC driver by profession, who wanted to marry Parveen from the family, was to blame for the incident. The family members were against this alliance, and therefore married off Parveen to another youth. Angry over this snub, Amir Khan poured kerosene and torched the house, Reshma alleged.
