Bantwal, Apr 13: Two persons, including one from the taluk drowned at a canal leading from Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam in Mandya district on Thursday April 11.

Bhagyalaxmi (17), a second PU student of Carmel Convent, Modankap near here, and daughter of Shobha S Rao and Satyanarayana Rao from Kudumundoor in Sajipamooda village in the taluk, who was on a trip to Brindavan Gardens, died while trying to save a child from drowning in the KRS canal.

The driver of the car she was travelling in, named Ravikumar (29) from Mysore, who jumped into the canal to save Bhagya, breathed his last, it is gathered.

Bhagyalaxmi, after the completion her examinations recently, was on a visit to her aunt's home in Mysore because of summer holidays. On Thursday evening, the family had visited Mahadevapura with four other relatives, where the tragedy occurred

The student’s body was found later, and brought to her native place. It is learnt that she was the only child of her parents. With her demise, Carmel Convent Modankap, which had lost its student, Roshan Lasrado, and old student, Athvin Joyson due to drowning at Karinjeshwara temple pond on Thursday, has lost three of its students.

    R.I.P Bhagyalaxmi,If the authorities know that there are so much of drowning cases then why not put up sign warning all over the place,why waits for innocent people to loose their lives.When will action be taken.
