Bangalore: We will ask people's forgiveness for lapses: Shettar

Bangalore, Apr 13 (PTI): The ruling BJP in Karnataka would seek "forgiveness" from the people for its lapses, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said today and asserted that the exit of former party strongman B S Yeddyurappa would not affect its electoral performance.

"Those who gave us a bad name have left the party," he said and predicted that "it will be a surprise result (in favour of BJP)."

The Chief Minister said his party was not personality based but ideology oriented and will ask for another term in the May five assembly polls on the basis of its performance

"We will appeal to the people to forgive us for our lapses. We will seek another opportunity by assuring the people of providing a spotless government", said Shettar, who, the BJP says, would continue to be the chief minister in the event of the party returning to power.

He said no single person could claim to have contributed single handedly to the party's growth in Karnataka. "BJP was not born yesterday. Individuals come and go at the state and national levels."

Asked how the BJP would be able to shed the "corruption tag" as its rule was hit by several scandals, he said "those who gave us a bad name have left the party."

Shettar told reporters that the governments headed by him and his predecessor D V Sadananda Gowda had provided scam-free administration with no graft charge against both of them.

Shettar said BJP was hopeful of securing a clear cut majority of 120 to 135 seats in the 224-member Assembly. "The election will be a straight fight between BJP and Congress and it will be a surprise result (in favour of BJP)."

BJP Karnataka unit President Prahlad Joshi said the party had not spared anyone facing corruption charge and "we have sacrificed people."

He said senior party leader Arun Jaitley would come on frequent visits to Bangalore to guide the BJP's electioneering and finetune its stragegy.

Haha, I thought April 1st has already past. What BJP has done to our state is beyond repair.I am very apprehensive about UPA at center and BJP in our state. These people had opportunirty to make this state one of the foremost developed state in the country, look what they have done. Forget about villages, Bangalore's main roads have potholes like planet Mars.Terrible government. Only thing they have is to loot like UPA at the center. They are not worthy of forgiveness.God help us all.

Last Lok Sabha election you (BJP) asked ‘ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಅವಕಾಶ ಕೊಡಿ’ and we gave (please note – betrayal of kumaraswamy-sympathy votes). You looted Karnataka like nothing. Now you are asking ‘ತಪ್ಪಾಯ್ತು, ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ’. Once again if we forgive you……………….I pity oh my Karnataka u will not be there in the map of India.

Sau choohe kha ke billi haj to chali. Prahlad Joshi saying "we have not spared anyone with a corruption charge" is the joke of the century. Both your Deputy CMs have massive corruption charges. The one and only Eswharappa is still waiting for his currency counting machine to be returned by the Lokayukta. Not to mention 2 kilos of gold, 39 kilos of silver and huge properties that was found red handed during the raid! We still havent forgotten how you let reddy loot the state (who incidentally is still in the party). Of course I'm not mentioning "small fry" like Katta, Nirani who just looted a few thousand crores. Watching porn in the assembly seems to be a criteria for getting your party ticket nowadays. Whom are you trying to fool, sir?

    Shettar...The following cannot be forgiven.
    1. Your government had ordered shooting dead farmers in Haveri, 2008.
    2. The mining scam and numerous other scams worth thousands of crores cannot be forgiven.
    3. Your government let us down by not providing adequate water, electricity.
    4. The goons backed by your party attacked churches, besides your govt covertly encouraged these goondas by filing false cases and arresting the protestors.
5.Mindless assault of youngsters, students, hotels, establishment in the name of (im)moral policing.
    6. Encouraging Goondaism in the state by supporting the acts of Bajrangis and Senas.
    7. Inability to create employment or set up new industries.
    8. While farmers were facing severe drought your 'scumbag' MLA's were enjoying in resorts.
9.Does Palemar who is contesting from Mangalore North deserve to run for elections after he was caught watching porn in assembly?
    10. Rapist Halappa deserves to be kicked out.How can he be forgiven?

First it was illegal cow transport followed by imaginary love jihad, and then it was non-existent forced religious conversions. Now FORGIVENESS seems to be the latest mantra of BJP to fool the people of Karnataka. Dear Mister Chief Minister could you please tell us which of your lapses were done out of ignorance? You'll struggle to find even one. Deliberate mistakes are called sins and they cannot be forgiven, the perpetrators should be punished. And BJP (for that matter any political party) deserves it. Election results are secondary.
