Over 200 held for law violation in Dubai


Dubai, April 16 (IANS/WAM): A total of 231 people, including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers, have been arrested in Dubai for violating the law.

Dubai Municipality inspectors in cooperation with Dubai Police arrested the law violators in March, said Obeid Ibrahim Marzouqi, head of markets management at the municipality.

The move also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods and pirated CDs.

Among those arrested were 141 street vendors, 48 beggars, 42 illegal workers including car washers, unlicensed butchers and fish cleaners. The seized goods included 165 pirated CDs, 200 food items, 19 palm trees meant for sale on public roads.

The law-breakers, who belong to various nationalities, would be deported.
