Mangalore, Apr 16: The graduation and diploma awarding ceremony of the Unity Academy of Education was held on Tuesday April 16 at 6 pm on the campus in Ashoknagar, Dambel.

Dr P Chandramohan, vice chancellor, Yenepoya University, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr C P Habeeb Rehman, chairman, Unity Academy of Education, presided. Lt Col Prof Suma K S, principal, Unity Academy of Education, Dr Rohan Monis, medical coordinator, Devraj P, administrator coordinator, and Rosy Leena Rego, nursing superintendent, were also present on the dais.

The graduates and guests were taken to the venue in a special procession inside the campus. The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries presenton the dais.

In his address, Dr Chandramohan said that just like birthdays, anniversaries, and other memorable days, this ceremony is the most memorable one in the life of every student and graduate.

He cited the example of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. Dr Chandramohan said, “During war time, when the death rate of injured soldiers was rapidly increasing, Florence was the one who volunteered to go to the battlefield along with 36 other nurses to serve them. The first step thing she realized was that the main reason for the death rate to increase was the unhygienic surroundings. Hence, the first thing she did was to create a hygienic atmosphere. Her way of service and approach should be the motivation for all the young nurses.”

He urged the nurses to exercise empathy when attending to patients. The lamp lighting ceremony for new nurses was held. Graduation certificates were handed over to the young graduates by the chief guest. The oath-taking ceremony then followed.

Students, staff, and parents were present in large numbers.
