Mangalore: Police from Bangalore bust prostitution racket, arrest woman

Sunil Haleangady
Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Apr 17: The Bangalore CoD police on Tuesday April 16 raided a house at Kulai and busted a suspected prostitution racket, wherein minors were allegedly being trafickked and pushed into the trade. One woman was arrested and five children rescued.

All the children are said to be below the age of 14, and most of them are orphans. They were being sent to various cities and towns and forced into the trade, it is learnt.

The matter first came to light when a girl from Mysore was spotted wandering around in Bangalore. 'Odanadi' self-help centre which had spotted the girl took her under its care, and during counselling, it was learnt that the girl had been forced into prostitution. The girl also revealed that a woman by name Tara at Kulai near Suratkal had pushed her into it, and that there were four other young children trapped by the woman.

Taking serious note of the revelations, Odanadi centre at once filed a complaint with the CoD. Based on the statement of the girl, the Bangalore CoD police team conducted a surprise raid on the woman's house at Kulai on Tuesday and took her into custody.

The police who interrogated the woman on the spot learnt that the children had been sent to various places in the district. The children were soon traced and rescued.

It is said that Tara would not only force minor children into flesh trade but also sell them. The children also claimed that she had the support of two personnel of Suratkal police station. The two policemen who came to the spot were even identified by the children. These policemen used to visit their house often, said the children.

A native of Malavalli, Tara had come down to Kulai a year ago and rented a house. Her husband was working in a private company in Bangalore. The girl in Bangalore who first revealed about Tara is said to be her relative. After the death of the girl's parents, Tara had taken charge of her and forced her into prostitution, sources said.

It is said that when police questioned Tara, she confronted them saying that she was nothing when compared to the wide human trafickking network in Mangalore and Udupi wherein hundreds of children were being used for prostitution.

The minors who were rescued were handed over to child welfare committee.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Parashuram, director of Odanadi self-help center said that the minor girls are now safe under the care of the child welfare committee and investigation are going on by the police to bust the prostitution network further.

It is said that Tara used to identify orphan children, adopt them and eventually used them for flesh trade. Sources said that there is a strong network in areas like Kodagu-Chamarajanagar-Mysore-Bangalore-Mangalore. It is said that she has wide network in many lodges and resorts across the city.

Tara was the president of Mahila Coolie Karmikara Sangha in Suratkal. Taking advantage of her post, she used to fool people such that no one grew suspicious about her activities.

Another person identified as Jayanna from Suratkal, who was closely associated with Tara in the prostitution racket, was arrested by police late night on Tuesday. It is learnt that he used to supply girls to various places.

A case was registered by the Suratkal police late on Tuesday night.

Agree with your comment Gerald. Prostitution can not be stopped. Those who want to go to hell (willingly) doors must be kept open for them. Prostitution must be made legal. What is not acceptable & that everyone must try and prevent is forcing a minor or an unwilling adult in to prostitution

for the first time police have done a good job, by protecting the girls who were forced to prostitution, otherwise they were arresting the women as accused instead of protecting them and taking the real culprits to task who forced them to this act. hope this good work of police continue, good luck to them, we as a society need to keep a watch on this, and support the officer who took action, who is likely to face political pressure in his duty, as it is common knowledge that such illegal acts always have political patronage.

"In his speech in Shimoga, the Karnataka deputy chief minister Eshwarappa had raised the issue of 68 Brahmin girls being abducted by Muslim youth in Shimoga."

"They are innocent girls, they are poor girls, they are instigated by giving false promises of showing foreign countries, false promises of giving appointments abroad. Girls from all sections of society have been abducted by them. These Muslim boys use them for six months or a year and later throw them away. They never even complained, because it is question of family prestige," Eshwarappa had said"

Which Jihad is this? Do you want to blame Muslims for this?

    Good,
'Odanadi' centre at once filed a complaint with the CoD Bangalore Police.

If they would have complained to Mangalore Police since Kulai Belongs to them.

God only knows what would have happend so far!

Wrong Charge sheet against 'Odanadi' centre and its members, Non bailable warrants against them, etc, etc,

Having a knowldge of this they might have thought of compaining to COD.

Mangalore Police must be asking now!
How come you didn't imform us before complaing to COD?
Why COD did not inform us before raiding 'TARA' madams house? etc

We are unfortunate to have Shameless POLICE who associated with this TARA madam, she is partly contributing their daily bread.

Moral polices in Mangalore district are targeting only college students, parks, pubs, resorts, theatres etc, that to just for show off.
They don't dare to question or stop this type of illegal activities, because prostitution, liquor business, human trafficking is run by influential people, who has power to throw moral polices into arabian sea.

    This is disturbing.
Prostitution per se is exploitation in the very best sense even if supported by the judiciary by legalizing the same , but child molestation and trafficking , well i have no words to condemn the same.
Sincere request though for sure a lot of skeletons will roll out , Investigate the police officers and get the clientele list as well as people who supported the trade. Make it public .The girl is question ( child )who named the policemen and the woman may be under severe duress. Let child rehabilitation and civic society support her . We want a full fledged public inquiry as this is definetly as TARA says larger than what had been exposed . Forget political affiliations, caste , community and religon here , this is humanely wrong and we in mangalore will not support or remotely even encourage the same .
One more thing i would like to bring to the readers of this forum and also ask for your guidance is that I see a lot of underaged children ( between 8-15 years ) working in shops, hotels, small eateries, clinics, and trade centers > is this not child labour .. Its all over town . How do we tackle this in our home towns.. Im looking for suggestions here . I have a list of places ready that i have noted, they may say its thier relatives or something , but i see it as inherently erroneous to make school children work and this can lead to further exploitation as we see .

    regards
    ashwin

What of those police, who were identified by the girls, as frequent visitors. It will be nice if Daiji can follow their link - is it reported to their supreiors, are their superiors taking any action, or are these police, pointing a finger further either to their seniors or politicians.

It will be healthier to track that line and get the cure, than go after these girls, who are puppets in some or other hand. They have lost the guilt concience, have got a taste of money, curing them will be a harder job, but that is to be done.

It will be good to know where the police are posted, so all women can avoid that territory. The police have smelt, they will go after flesh, easily.

Shameful it is, but let us admit, that there is nothing really clean in Mangalore.

There is a great task for all of us citizens to get it back to it's glory - the administration will not.

This is a worrying development in our area. Otherday it was about trapping girls thru mobile recharging. Forcing minors in to flesh trade is most heineous crime. The culprits should be dealt with severe punishments. Law Enforcement agencies need to work more focused. It seems they also have joined the hands with the racket. Who ever comes to rule at state and centre the protection to the minors and development of infrastrure should be focused than infighting for plump portfolios.

This is not a good development happening in our region. Let this Lady die the way she wants but why did she force minors to this business? Few people started talking about religion and party here again. Little did they understand that these people don’t belong to any religion nor they support any party except money. Shocking revelation by this Lady is, “This is nothing when compare to business going on in Udupi and Mangalore Area” as claimed by her. Does it mean flesh trading in Udupi and Mangalore region is flourishing? Our Law enforcing Agency knows nothing about this dirty business?. This Lady kept so many Goddess photos but very sad to know that none of the ideology of these Goddess followed by her

May be Tara was their elder sister and they used to make social calls!!!!.
Now catch the two and intense questioning will reveal not only this dump but many others where these young children are used for flesh trade.
Without police being a part of the racket, such places cannot run\survive\exist.
Even with this open testimony from these children, I wonder any action will be taken against the woman and the policemen.
What about the so called (im)moral culture protecting guys - how come they do not know about these dumps. They did not want to protect these innocent children or are they part of the racket too?
