Mangalore, Apr 17: The regional transport officials had said they would begin enforcing the rule that the LPG tankers and trucks having national permits should have a minimum of two drivers and a cleaner, from Monday April 15 onwards. The district deputy commissioner, after visiting the Perne LPG tranker accident site, had instruct the RTO officials to strictly enforce these rules. 

Members of Suratkal Kana unit of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) stopped two bullet LPG tankers, which had begun their onward journey without meeting the above requirements, at Kana and sent them back on Monday. Reportedly, these tankers, which began moving towards Bangalore after loading LPG from the HPCL plant at Bala, had only one driver each.

DYFI president, Muneer Katipalla, said that the RTO officials have assured to begin implementing the guidelines strictly from Tuesday onwards.

RTO officials took into possession eight tippers with Goan registration numbers, which were found moving around in Suratkal area. These tippers were used to transport crushed stones and other building materials. An official of the RTO said that the trucks would be released after producing receipts for having paid three months road tax to the department here.
