Man held for killing four family members in Bengal

Kolkata, Apr 18 (IANS): A 40-year-old man has been arrested for killing four of his family members, including his wife and minor son, allegedly over a property dispute, police said Thursday.

"We have arrested Nepal Chandra Das for murdering four of his family members. His five-year-old son who was fatally attacked succumbed to injuries in hospital Wednesday," Barrackpore Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh said.

The incident happened in North 24 Parganas district's Agarpara area late Wednesday. Das, a TV mechanic, slit the throats of his sister-in-law Ratna and nephew Subhankar. When his wife Soma tried to intervene, he killed her too.

He later poured kerosene on their bodies and set the house on fire. Das also attacked his two children - daughter Sharmistha and son Somnath - with a sword.

While Sharmistha is battling for life in a hospital here, Somnath succumbed to his injuries. Police arrested Das Wednesday.
