Udupi: Man from New Delhi gets life term for killing retired army man

Udupi, Apr 20: The Udupi fast track court on Saturday April 20 sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a retired army man in 2010.

The accused is identified as Dharmendra Sharma alias Om Prakash (39) from New Delhi. He was convicted of murdering Taniyappa (56) from Bommarabettu, a retired army personnel. He is survived by his wife Sumana and children.

As per the information obtained, Om Prakash is a relative of Sumana and had stayed in the house as a guest for some days before committing the murder. It is said that Prakash used to freely talk to Sumana and angered by this, Taniyappa had asked Prakash to leave the house.

Om Prakash who harboured a grudge against Taniyappa entered his house on September 16, 2010 at around 10.30 pm and killed him with a sickle. In this regard, all the witnesses spoke in favour of the deceased and considering these and other various aspects of the case, the court sentenced Om to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

Public prosecutor T S Jituri fought the case. The case was investigated by the then Brahmavar circle inspector G Krishnamurthy who had submitted the chargesheet to the court.
