Kundapur: One dead, three of family injured in tipper-Omni collision

Kundapur, Apr 22: One person was killed on the spot and three others injured in an accident between a 407 tipper and a Maruti Omni at Hakladi here on Monday April 22.

The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Poojary (28) from Ulloor, Kandavar. The Omni belongs to Sanjeeva Poojary of Makkimane, Basrur.

Ravindra was travelling along with his sister Saroja, brother-in-law Shankar Poojary and niece Sapna (11) and nephew Swayam (5) towards Aloor temple, when a tipper rammed into the Omni.

Ravindra was killed on the spot while the others sustained injuries. Shankar who was seriously injured was admitted to Adarsh Hospital, Udupi, while Saroja and the children were taken to Chinmayi Hospital, Kundapur.

The impact of the accident was such that the Omni was badly smashed and rolled off the side of the road, while the tipper dashed against a tree by the highway.

Shankar stays abroad while his family lives in Mumbai. They had come on summer vacation to their native place two days ago.

The tipper driver escaped from the spot soon after the accident. The tipper is owned by Vivekananda, Naga Shrinivas, Batradi Road, Kundapur.

A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.
