Mangalore, Apr 23: The commercial tax department officials on Tuesday April 23 seized 27 cartons of mixer grinders at Central railway station here during a routine check at railway stations, airport and bus stands.

The 27 cartons contained 6 mixer grinders each. In all, 162 grinders were seized by the team led by Mahmood Khan, assistant commissioner of Commercial Tax Enforcement-III.

As per the maximum retail price printed on the mixer grinders, the total cost of these 162 mixers stands at Rs 4,65,750.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Mahmood Khan said, "As per the instructions of DC Harsh Gupta under election commission's guidelines, strict checks are being conducted on a routine basis. We found a large number of cartons lying at Central railway station."

He further said that there was no representative or any person guarding the cartons, and as the goods were not accompanied by documents under the VAT Act, the goods were seized and kept in the commercial tax department.

As per initial information obtained, it is learnt that the goods were on board a Mumbai train to Mangalore Central Railway Station. As there was no authorized claimant for the goods, it is highly suspected to have been brought to Mangalore for distribution among voters, he said.

The officer in the pictures seems so excited that it looks as though he has nabbed Dawood Ibrahim from his hide out in Karachi and flown to India in a sting operation. Silly goose.

While booking by train, the booking staff demand for invoice of the goods or a diclaration from the consignor.but most of the time when we go to take delivery, the invoice copy or such documents are missing. so usualy we take the original bill received from the supplier through post or courier while going to take delivery of the goods.sometimes the consignee may come late to take delivery.hence we can't come to the conclution that the goods lying in the platform is without documents.now the the vat system is so transperent that any concerned authority can check the details online with the click of a button! that too such a big consignment!
