Kasargod, Apr 24: Two persons were arrested by the railway police at Kannur on Monday April 22 for allegedly attempting to rape a co-passengers in a moving train.

The arrested are identified as Murugesh (27) and Saghilesh (24), both from Kozhikode Beypore. They are construction workers.

A family from Thiruvananthapuram, comprising parents and two daughters, was returning home in a train after visiting Kollur, when the incident occurred.

As soon as the Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram train moved out of the railway station here at about 2.30 pm on Sunday April 21 and was passing through the railway tunnel at Kalanadu, the accused, taking advantage of the darkness, suddenly embraced the 13-year-old girl and tried to rape her, it is said. The girl raised an alarm. The other passengers in the compartment helped the girl and her family, besides handing over the accused to the personnel of Railway Protection Force at Kannur.

The railway police, to whom a complaint was made by the girl's father, after inquiry, have transferred the case to Kannur police station, where a case stands registered.

8-year-old girl from Kerala gang-raped at Tiruppur

In another incident, an 8-year-old was hospitalized after she was allegedly gang-raped at Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu by some drunken youth recently.

The girl, a native of  Ernakulam, happens to be the daughter of a woman who works in a garments factory in Tiruppur. The police have arrested four persons residing in the neighbouring house relating to the incident. The police are looking for four more accused relating to the case.

The woman had left behind her daughter at the housing quarters provided by the garments factory. In the evening, on returning home, she saw her daughter lying in a serious condtion. She got the girl admitted into the hospital, where gang rape was established. Initially, the personnel of a nearby police station hesitated about registering the case, it is said. Later, the police were pressurized into registering the case, with the intervention of some Malayalee organizations in Tiruppur, it is said.

It is said that the youth involved with the rape were drunk. As soon as the details of the incident spread, thousands of people took to streets, and protested by blocking traffic. Some relatives and Malayalee organizations have demanded for shifting the girl from the hospital in Coimbatore where she is being treated now, to a hospital in Kerala state.

The incident, coming in the wake of the much-publicized rape cases of New Delhi, has taken the people by surprise and shock. Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, has expressed deep concern about the incident, and promised to extend all help for the treatment of the girl.

The number of rape incidents currently being reported in media is just tip of the iceberg. A country where 1.25 billion population, you think the violence on women is just 1 or 2 in a day? There could be dozens of rape incidents in a day, in metros, rural areas and villages. But fearing the social stigma, many are not coming on the surface.

Rape incidents can be reduced, but can never be eradicated totally.

Sex is a natural pleasure and to seek it some sick minded devils attempt to force themselves upon women without thinking the consequences. Outraging a woman's modesty and even touching a woman without her consent is a grave offence. The criminal realizes his offence only after the crime, if it is reported.

As Sushma Swaraj demanded, the death penalty for rape and murder could help reduce the offence to a certain extent, but no zero crimes.

Rape rape rape!!!!i am tired of reading daily. The punishment for the rapist must be strong. Their testicles must be crushed and their organ should be chopped just like we chop onion in the kitchen. Or people must carry sharp weapons for their safety, and some red chilly powder. Of course in a pepper spray bottle.

Kerala was once famous for social justice and Keralites never tolerate insutice, wrong doing the society. Now a days there were several cases of sexual assault, rape that in the the train too.The above reported case can not be termed as rape but it is sexual assault and the accused should have treated by the people only before handing over to police. When people beat them for such crimes on respectful citizens it should be certain that their either leg or hand is broken. Then only such crimes caould be controlled.I am frightened to forsee the future of our girl child/woman in the soceity in future times if things are controlled by strict laws for such misadventures.

Now this is becoming too much, day by day this crime is increasing that to on minors. Now public should not keep quite. If we are waiting for law nothing will happen. Public should become strong enough to punish these criminals, they must catch them and shop the part of the criminals. When the criminals were caught why there face closed? Public should see their face

Yes sir what you said is very true. Media should take a hold of themselves from showing repeatedly certain type of news and should not sensationalise. By doing so there is adverse effect on some viewers\listeners.
p.s.: I always like to read your comments here. They are mostly down to earth comments. (black is black'white is white) Thank you.

We need strong law for peoples who attempt to rape minors. The law should be like cut off the private parts of accused immediately then only the lesson for others, otherwise we cannot prevent such types of heinous crimes in India. Last couple of months we are hearing frequently similar type of incidents on daily basis.

There is something drastically wrong in our country. Why these animals are not getting punished (by law)? Is media's over attention is causing inspiration to rape adventurers? reporting a crime in media is required. But showing it repeatedly in channels (without showing the consequences) may be creating a kind of general acceptability among sick minded people and encouraging them to try this heinous crime? Debate on this subject is welcome.

In case (1) here, isn't it exaggerated a bit ? How one can rape within the time the train passes through a tunnel ? The term is molestation, not rape.

We are all demanding a stricter law for rapists. But, misusing the law like this is manipulation.
