Mangalore: Dr Veerendra Heggade inaugurates AJ Cancer Institute

Mangalore, Apr 24: The inauguration of the new Cancer Institute and the ceremony of handing over of NABH certificate were held at the A J Institute campus, here on Wednesday April 24.
Padma Bhushan Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala inaugurated the Institute and handed over the NABH certificate.
Dr K S Sriprakash, vice chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Ajai Kumar, chairman and managing director, Corporation Bank, professor K Karthikeya Varma, director, Academy, Research and Quality, senior paediatric surgeon, Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Calicut, Anil Kumar, regional manger, Indian Overseas Bank were the chief guests present on the dais.
Dr Prashanth Marla, Prashanth Shetty, Amarnath Shetty, Dr Ramesh Pai, Dr Sureshchandra and Dr Kamalaksha Shenoy were the other dignitaries were present.
The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the dignitaries. Dr D Veerendra Heggade then handed over the NABH Certificate to A J Shetty, Dr Prashanth Marla and Dr Amitha P Marla.
Addressing the gathering, Dr D Veerendra Heggade said, "AJ Institute is well-known in Karnataka and especially in the district, due to the hard work and true dedication of A J Shetty. The institute not only focuses on the welfare of its students, but also the welfare of the whole of the society."
He further said, "In the medical field, a well-equipped hospital needs to be set up for the students to carry out research facilities. A student can score high ranks mainly due to the quality of education given by the college administration."
"Due to innovations in the field of medical science, the averag human life span has extended. In the past years, people in the poorer section of the society died due to various diseases going unnoticed and due to lack of medical support. But today even the poor and the backward classes of the society can get the best of health care," he said.
"The new cancer centre has been designed to ensure comfortable and stress-free stay for patients. Insurance companies are requested to come forward with special schemes and plans to support the cancer patients. The hospital also needs to co-ordinate with the insurance companies to give better service to the society, especially to the financially backward class", he said.
He further lauded the institute for securing the NABH Accreditation Certification as it is the first in the DK Dist to secure it and one among the few in the state.
Dr Prashanth Marla welcomed the gathering. A J Shetty delivered the key-note address. Guests and well-wishers were present in large number.
