Media Release

Rome, Apr 24: Konkani Kutam, Rome had its get-together with great devotion and fervor at Collegio del Verbo Divino, (the Generalate House of SVDs) in Rome on Sunday April 21, as part of Easter celebrations.

Fr Ronald Serrao, the professor of Liturgy at St Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore was the main celebrant; concelebrated by Fr Peter Paul Saldanha and Fr Elias, the professors of the Urbaniana University, Rome and other a dozen of priests hailing from the dioceses of Mangalore and Udupi.

In his homily, Fr Ronald Serrao, highlighted the significance of Jesus’ resurrection in our faith journey and reiterated that the darkness of the world can only be transformed by the light of Jesus’ resurrection. He also enumerated the qualities of Jesus, the good shepherd as the fourth Sunday of Easter is known to be the “Good Shepherd Sunday” and urged the faithful to pray for the vocations to priesthood and religious life.

After the Eucharistic celebrations, a one hour cultural entertainment programme was organized by the members of Konkani Kutam. Under the leadership of Fr Walter D’Mello, the Mangalore diocesan priests enthralled the audience with the singing of old classical “Bangdo, Tarlo” song, which brought back the memories of yesteryears.

There was also a felicitation for the outgoing members of Konkani Kutam. Spot prizes, games and humour made the short programme a livelier one.

Fr Victor Rodrigues SVD,  the president of Konkani Kutam Rome thanked one and all for their contribution towards organizing the Easter celebration. Fr Naveen Rebello SVD, the MC of the programme kept the audience engaged throughout with lively and peppy compering.

After the programme, a sumptuous Mangalorean meal with sannam-mutlim-mass was served to all 75 people who gathered on the occasion. Enriched and rejuvenated by the fellowship, the members now look forward to the next gathering. Till then, Konkani Kutam, lamb jiyon.
