Mangalore, Apr 26: Penumbral lunar eclipse occurred between 1.24 am to 1.53 am on Friday April 26. The duration of the eclipse was different in different regions.

This was the first lunar eclipse of the year 2013.

As it was a partial eclipse, only a small portion of the moon was obscured by earth's umbral shadow.

As per Hindu belief systems, eclipse of any kind is thought to be a bad omen for people born in certain star signs.

Temples in the district were flooded by devotees concerned with the perceived ill affect on their life, offering a host of pujas to rid themselves of the effects, on Thursday evening.

The next eclipse lined up during the year is solar eclipse, which will occur on May 10.
