UAE: GMU first in region to set up Advanced Testing Center

Ajman, Apr 26: The State-of-the-Art Testing Center becomes operational at Gulf Medical University (GMU) which is one of the biggest in the region and is equipped with advanced technology to conduct examinations.

The Center can also be utilized as an educational testing service provider by other institutions and organizations in UAE.

 

A state-of-the-art testing center is the latest addition to the ever-growing facilities at Gulf Medical University (GMU).  This new unit is capable of accommodating placement tests, examinations or any other form of testing through an online sophisticated technical set-up. 

The center also provides testing in a secured environment for students and creates optimum environment for examinees to perform at their personal best.

“Gulf Medical University is the first university in the Middle East to introduce an Examination Management Software System called ExamSoft under licence from ExamSoft Worldwide Inc. (USA). The software offers an exam management solution which delivers powerful actionable data to assess achievement of student learning outcomes and improve student learning through engagement and remediation.  The use of examination management software system and implementation of online examination can enhance the quality of services and maintain high standards”, says professor R Chandramouli, dean – assessment and evaluation,GMU.

The application of ExamSoft in assessments in the GMU programs has paved the way to administer theInternational Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) I and II examinations offered by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), USA for the medical students in the MBBS program, which can benchmark student performance using international standards. 

GMU has signed an agreement with NBME to administer the exam for the MBBS students from the academic year 2013.

Professor Gita Ashok Raj, provost, GMU added that “The employment of an external professional body with an outstanding track record for blue printing and conducting examinations in the field of medicine will reassure our stakeholders of the validity and fairness of assessment and evaluation of student performance that matches both national and global requirements of medical education”.

GMU Testing Center Facilities:


The State-of-the-Art GMU Testing Center has a capacity to accommodate 88 students at a time. To meet the standards required for international testing regulations, the center is equipped with adequate number of CCTV cameras in each of its three testing halls. Access to the center and examination halls is user-friendly to people with special needs (wide elevator and doors).

The testing center has a data processing room where post-test analysis of scores is done.  Each examinee is provided with a desktop computer to take the online examinations.

GMU testing center can also serve as an educational testing service provider for other institutions and organizations in UAE and is available for third party bookings to conducttests or examinations.
