Kasargod, Apr 27: In a tragic incident which occurred at Beejantadka in the district on Friday April 26 afternoon, a girl and her mother lost their life after drowning in a stream.

The unfortunate victims have been identified as Saraswati (36), wife of Sanjeeva from Kandattodi, and her daughter, Anjana (10).

The incident occurred near the ancestral home of the family in Beejantadka. Both the mother and her daughter had come there to take part in the customary Daiva Kola organized at their ancestral house. At that time, Anjana had ventured into a water stream flowing nearby along with her friend. She drowned soon, and her mother, Saraswati, jumped into the stream in an effort to save her daughter. Both of them drowned and were washed away.

The locals, hearing the alarms raised by some people who saw the incident, rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the duo. However, both of them had breathed their last before their bodies could be recovered. Post mortem of the bodies was conducted at the general hospital here.
