Mangalore, Apr 27: Nine private buses, including city and express buses were stopped by the RTO for violating rules here on Saturday April 27.

As per the DC's order, violating the election code of conduct and ignoring routine routes invites penalty.

The buses not only ferried passengers to Congress rally in the city without prior permission, but had even deviated from their usual routes.

Speaking to Daijiworld, RTO Mallikarjuna said, "During elections if the buses need to change their routes they need to seek permission from the district election officer or the returning officer. They cannot ferry passengers to in large groups to election rallies without prior permission."

The buses were taken to the SP grounds for verification of documents. After discussions with the DC a decision will be taken as per the Motor Vehicles Act.

The operation was conducted as per the orders of the deputy commissioner.

For this simple raid why do you need 4 PSIs and 10s of PCs. This practice is there from ages. why suddenly RTO and traffic police are woke up.

Dont you thing there are important issues like keep a tab on the speed limit on the highway.

There are few interceptor vehicles with the traffic police. They use it for daily commute as a transport veicle. They never use it for checking the speed limit on highway. If they use these vehicles properly lot of accidents can be prevented on the highway and many people will save their lives.

Why can't the RTO punish the bus driver with the same as done in the above case for blowing electric horns? The sound pollution is too much to bear, especially for people residing along the main road.

Barring the reason for the busses being stopped by RTO for elections... If you go by the headlines of this article "Mangalore: RTO stops nine buses for violating rules", in my opnion ALL buses in Mangalore should be checked by RTO because ALL of them violate rules when they are in service and are a hazard to Mangalore motorists.

I am pleased by the rto by doing this act after catching 9 buses, that too private, i would like to ask the same rto, were they sleeping during rss rally in kenjar, when plenty of govt buses & private buses were included in rally, blocking all the routes for more than 2 hours, maravoor road, kateel road, kaikamba road, moodbidri road, what was that,

    Dear RTO Mangalore,
Instead of this kind of cosmetic raids, please do the followings.
1.Mandatory installation of speed governors in each city & service buses.
2.Mandatory installation of GPS in all buses. If required organizing a third party call centre to monitor all buses.
    3. Mandatory training to drivers on defensive driving.
    4. Mandatory education/training to bus support staff (conductor/assistant etc.)
    5. Every day at least one person is dying in the city due to motor vehicle accident.
    6. the list is endless .....

I appreciate this time that R.T.O. has done a wonderful job..... but i still doubt can this action taken,

would there be a political agenda behind this ?????

You know why i am telling you this is, from a long time i see Private buses running on Mangalore to Dharmastala route and Mangalore to Puttur route... these buses are not supposed to enter bus stands or pick-up passengers from bus-stands, they hold C.C permit (contract carriage)which is used to transport passengers for Marriage functions, etc....

Now my question to R.T.O, Mangalore is how do you permit these private buses to function on these rout's as a city transport collecting passenger from each and every bus stop while as per Motor vehicle Act 1989.....

Its very cleared mentioned as per THE CENTRAL MOTOR VEHICLES RULES, 1989, CHAPTER IV, CONTROL OF TRANSPORT VEHICLES,Tourist permits, point number 83 sub point number 6 that The tourist vehicle shall not be parked on any bus stand used by stage carriage and shall not operate from such bus stand.

Now can i get a answer for this ?????

I can see all Nataka that why we call our state Kar-Nataka.....

    Jai Hind!!!

RTO action might have been prompted by election commission. They should also take measures against rash driving. They'll get credit for saving so many innocent lives. Elections are just a temporary phase saving lives is the need of the hour. Too many accidents many of them two wheelers hit by speeding buses and trucks.

I wish the RTO is also concerned about the rash driving n the city and the jarring/monstrous honking. They start honking continuously for God knows what!!! The multi toned horns are deafening. I wish they made a resolution not to honk for a day at least the city would be peaceful..Lets act like civilised human beings. If they are not aware lets make them aware of the nuisance they are causing the sick, elderly etc.

By this action, the RTO / Traffic Police are actually putting the citizens to hardship. Sometimes there is only one bus plying to a remote point in the city. If this bus is seized, people of that area will have to walk.

Why this drama only during elections ? Govt. officials get their salary for 365 days.

Near Mangalore Nursing Home, Balmatta, city / service buses are parked on the main road. Service buses are also parked on Kankanady maidan thus making it illegal bus stand. Here free water from the Kankanady market is used to wash buses. The market watchman is tipped hence the free water.
