Puttur, Apr 29: The fast track court here has held that the charge of murder levelled against a lady and her paramour relating to the death of the lady’s mother last year, has been proved. The two were accused of killing the mother and tossing her body into a pond.

The body of Ratnavati alias Sundari was found from a pond in Pulittadi near Eshwaramangala in Puttur taluk on February 24, 2012. Sundari’s daughter, Kusuma, was having an affair with Chandrashekhar alias Chandra Naik, a married man. Sundari did not approve of this relationship.

When Sundari was involved with husking of betelnut in the house of a retired teacher named Venkataramana Bhat in Pulittadi, both the accused came there, hit her with sickle, beat her up with a cudgel, tied a rope around her neck, dragged her, and threw her body into a nearby pond. The incident came to light when Venkataramana Bhat and his wife, who were away, came back home in the evening.

Sampya police had registered the case, arrested the accused, and filed charge sheet in the court. The court, based on various evidences and examination of 14 witnesses, held on Saturday that the charge of murder has been proved. It said that the quantum of sentences will be announced on May 15.
