Udupi, May 4: M B Boralingaiah, superintendent of police, and M T Reju, DC, together called for a press meet on Friday May 3, before the upcoming assembly election.
DC said, “Till date, the excise department has seized materials worth Rs 1,012,600 in as many as 83 cases and around 24 accused have been arrested. A total of 15 cases for violation of moral code of conduct are registered in the district.”
The SP said that for peaceful election proceedings in the district 2,580 policemen, 1, 200 paramilitary forces, 114 police officers, 796 police officials, 250 home guards, 4 KSRP battalions, 3 BSF, 3 CISF, 2 CRPF, 2 SSB, and 5 RPF companies will be deployed.
“There will be 68 electoral mobile vehicles and 12 supervisory mobile vehicles will be on duty. The supervisory mobile vehicles will be in charge of three sectoral mobile vehicles,” he added.
“It is estimated that there are 52 naxal-affected polling stations, 99 hyper sensitive, 515 sensitive, and 372 general stations in the district. Around 15 inter-district and intra-district police check-posts have been set up already in this district,” added the SP.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC added, “There are 1,038 polling stations in the district and 6,499 poll officials will be deployed. Around 20,000 voters have been newly added to the voters’ list. Video cameras have been introduced in 110 polling stations, 294 micro-observers deployed in sensitive and hyper sensitive polling stations.”
“Under SVEEP many programmes were organized to create awareness among voters to cast votes. About 4 lac voters have received their voters slip till date and the remaining will receive their voters slip by Saturday May 4.
The officials in charge of mustering and de-mustering duties will be dispatched to their respective centers on Saturday at 9 am,” he added.
The counting center is T A Pai English Medium School, Kunjibettu. The mustering and de-mustering centers are Bhandarkars College for both Byndoor and Kundapur assembly constituencies, E M H School, Udupi for Udupi assembly constituency, St Cecily’s School for Kaup assembly constituency, and Mini Vidhana Soudha for Karkala assembly constituency. The campaigning ended at 5 pm on Friday May 3.
