Mangalore, May 4: The district court on Friday May 3 sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after he was held guilty of rapiing a minor two years ago.

The convict is Mansoor alias Ismail, resident of Kalavar.

It is said that on July 9, 2011, during a wedding ceremony at Kalavaru Church Hill, he entered the girl's house and raped her.

No one heard the cry of the girl owing to the sound of the generator at home. The accused had entered the house on the pretext of returning a sickle he had borrowed earlier.

As he had threatened the girl with dire consequences, she did not reveal the matter to anyone immediately. However, after 11 days, on July 21, she confided in her mother. The next, on July 22, a case was filed in the Suratkal police station. The then police inspector K M Belliappa registered the complaint and produced charge sheet before the court.

Judge P N Desai heard the case, and after recording statements of 21 witnesses in favour of prosecution, and examining the facts, he ruled that the charges of rape and threat to life were proved.

Apart from 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, the judge also sentenced Mansoor to one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000. He was also directed to pay Rs 10,000 to the victim as compensation.

Shivaprasad Alva was the counsel for prosecution.

The accused, who had been on bail durig the hearing of the case, was arrested after the verdict was out.
The accused who was in bail during the inquiry have been now allotted judicial custody.

Girls life is miserable hereafter even after 10years society will point finger on her and she vil have mental trauma till she dies.
The accused has history & he vil never change n again after 10years he will do one more rape.Because these history cheaters have done the same thing in India(delhi minor girl rape case).
Accused have to get death sentence as he has spoiled the life of the minor.
Girl should have been given proper compensation by the court.
