Udupi, May 6: Everyone dreams of attaining great heights, but very few actually succeed. Two youngsters - Jeevan Lazarus Kallianpur and Adel D’Souza Brahmavar - had such a dream, and are now within short disance of achieving it. They are the brains behind the telefilm ‘Angelina - A Messenger of Modern Era’, produced under the banner of A J Productions.

The telefilm will be officially released on Sunday May 12 at Mangalore. The first screening of the telefilm will be held on Sunday May 19 at Makkala Mantapa, Brahmavar, with live music and a formal stage function.

In an exclusive interview with Daijiworld, the duo shared their experience during planning, making, and shooting of the movie.

Jeevan, working in a software company as graphics expert came up with the story for the telefilm while Adel, proprietor of advertising agency Real View Creations, was the video editor.

The telefilm is about a girl of marriageable age in a family and the hurdles which she goes through. This is a common issue in all families.

“Though this is a telefilm, we would like to give an important message to society. ‘Angelina’ means messenger, so we planned to give a valuable message to people through our telefilm. I have seen many struggle on such issues, half the society doesn’t believe in facts that girls can do everything and this movie will be a small effort to show that they can,” said the duo.

Jeevan said the trend is changing. “In our life, we may reach any height but we should not forget our mother tongue. Several times I have come across families whose mother tongue is Konkani but they speak other languages. This is the reason why we have made this telefilm in our own mother tongue,” he added.

Snehal Mathias, who is pursuing her final year studies at SDM College, Mangalore, plays the lead role in the movie. “I wanted to pursue acting as my career and my parents have given me the maximum support possible. I love adventure and in this movie I loved riding the Bullet, jeep and a bus,” she added.

Vinod Gangolli is the director behind ‘Angelina’ who has also made movies like ‘Dream Girl’ and ‘Yesu Vachana’ as well as many social awareness programmes.

M Dolvin Kolalgiri, one of the finest music arrangers, who has rich experience in music and worked in the Kannada film industry with Ravikiran before, has given the heart touching music for the telefilm.

Songs include romantic, slow, and Baila numbers with lyrics by award winning poet Kishoo Barkur, Eric Soans Barkur, Anil Byndoor (Spain), Richard Dias (Kallianpur), and Melvyn Mascarenhas (Kolalgiri).

Songs have been sung by the very talented Prajoth D’Sa (Kallianpur), M Dolvin Kolalgiri, Shiny Rodrigues (Kolalgiri), Vinay Lewis (Kallianpur)–first GVOM winner, Harriet Braganza (Kundapur), Arun Danthi (Pernal), and Wilfred D’Sa (Shankarpura).

“If there is a will there is a way. If there is dedication even God won’t let us down,” said art co-ordinator and main co-ordinator of the moive Joseph Rebello. “Every crew member has given their best during the shooting. The work and dedication of the heroine is commendable. She was very punctual and dedicated to her work,” he added.

For a wedding scene, to be shot in a church, there was a need for actors in wedding suits. “We literally banged on the door of every house asking people to come to church in their best dresses the next morning. This process continued from 8 pm to 11.30 pm. We were been rejected by many but the next morning it was a real surprise to see a huge crowd,” he said.

A J Productions started this project with the aim of helping Mount Rosary Charitable Institute, Alangar, Moodbidri. “If good-hearted people support us well then we can come up with similar projects in the future. We are also focusing on giving opportunities to the talents hidden in our coastal belt in the areas of acting, editing, screenplay, singing, script writing, music,” said Jeevan and Adel.

Avinash Kolalgiri (Zion Studio, Santhekatte), Abhijith Shetty, Renita Barboza, Late Lawrence Almeida (Sastan), Lesli Aroza Thottam, Patrick Almeida Barkur, and many other talented people (around 200 crew members) from the coastal region feature in the telefilm. John D’Souza from Gangolli is the cameraman.

Shooting of the movie has occurred at places like Shirva, Barkur, Kallianpur, Malpe Beach, and many locations in Udupi region.

“We would like to screen the telefilm in Gulf countries if we are given a chance by the Konkani-loving people. The budget of the telefilm is nearly Rs 4.5 to 5 lac. To make up this cost we are screening this on a ticket show base initially. If any one is interested in supporting us by screening the telefilm, then we can be contacted on the given contact numbers,” added the duo.
