Man selling alcohol shot dead in Egypt

Cairo, May 7 (IANS/AKI): Islamist militants have shot dead a man selling alcohol in Egypt's Sinai peninsula, security sources said.

The man, identified as 28-year-old Rami Ahmed, ran a bar in El-Arish in northern Sinai.

He died in a hail of bullets fired by four gunmen.

"We believe that radical Islamists are behind this incident," the security sources said.

Ahmed came from the Nile delta area north of the capital Cairo, a fact that prompted investigators to rule out a dispute between local tribesman as the motive for the killing.

Islamists have been gaining influence in Sinai since the February 2011 ousting of Egypt's long-term president Hosni Mubarak.
