Bahrain: Walter Noronha takes charge as president of Konkan Singers Club

Bahrain, May 7: The newly elected members of the executive committee of Konkan Singers Club, Bahrain, for the year 2013 were introduced to the members during the Induction Ceremony-cum-Welcome Party at The Papillon Restaurant, Gudaibiya.

Walter Noronha was elected the president of Konkan Singers Club for the second consecutive term.

The ceremony was attended by 160 members and guests. The new committee was elected during the 35th annual general meeting held recently.

The function began with the entertainment secretary Leo Fernandes welcoming the gathering followed by a prayer dance by Rensilla Fernandes. Leo Fernandes then introduced the master of ceremony John D’souza who wonderfully compeered the whole function.

John D’souza introduced the committee to the members, Walter Noronha in his address thanked the members for their trust and confidence in him to lead the team and on other members of the committee. He further requested members to actively participate in the club activities and asked for members’ suggestions and ideas for the betterment of the club. John D’souza then invited the chief guest Fr Fredrick D’souza, assistant parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, Bahrain to the stage, he was escorted by the president Walter Noronha and the guest of honour Henry D’ Almeida was escorted by the vice-president Moses Cutinho.

John D’souza told the members that the executive committee, would like to honour Fr Fredrick D’souza fondly called Fr Freddy for his immense contributions to the Konkani Community of Bahrain as he was the former spiritual director of the Konkani Community at the Sacred Heart Church Bahrain. Joel D’sa read out Fr Freddy’s contributions to the society in general. Fr Freddy was honoured with a Shawl and a memento by the president and with a fruit bouquet by the executive members.

Fr Freddy in his reply thanked the executive members and members of the Konkan Singers Club for their appreciation and support and urged everyone gathered to work for the betterment of the society.

The function with beautiful dance performances by members children Hazel D’sa, Neha, Eunice D'Souza, Rensilla Fernandes, Jovita D’silva and Ashel Castelino and lovely music by DJ Philip was enjoyed by all. The gathering actively and enthusiastically participated in various party games conducted throughout the afternoon.

Vice-president Moses Cutinho in his vote of thanks thanked the members for their support and asked members for their co-operation and active participation in future events.

The function concluded with lunch.
