Kundapur, May 7: When the results of SSLC and PUC were announced on Monday May 6, there was outbreak of joy among those who had passed with flying colours, and much dejection among those who hadn't. Worse, in some cases across the state, youngsters who had failed, unable to face the world, took extreme steps.

In a tragic incident reported at Tallur here, a girl ended her life after learning that she had failed in one of the subjects in second PUC.

The deceased has been identified as Veena Poojary (18), daughter of Narasimha and Ganga Poojary, reisdents of Chikkamane, Tallur.

Veena was said to be a bright girl, pursuing her second PU in arts at Government Junior College, Kundapur.

It is said she was expecting a good result. However, when the results were announced, she found that she had failed in English, scoring only 18 marks. Her total was 387. She was the only one among her friends who had failed, which made more upset. Unable to face the situation, she jumped into a well near her house late night on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons, prinicipal of the College Subramanya Joshi said, “Veena was a brilliant and active student. She used to take part in all the activities. She was the leader of her class.” The principal expressed condolence over her untimely demise.

A case has been registered in Kundapur police station.

If teachers and principal call a meeting with students and parents who could not clear the tests and discuss the situation and provide guidelines and directions to the kids, it may help save some lives. These kids have no one to talk to and take wrong step. We can discuss everything on the website but ultimately i think school teachers only can help. I have seen so many crying friends who were asked to sit back in the same class and their name was not called to move on to the next class. It must be worse feeling and nightmare for many kids. I think lot of progress is made with primary education but nothing much done at the high school and college levels. It is very hard, i feel the pain what these kids went through in the last one or two weeks.

This is completely not acceptable . Parents and School / collage teachers has to take huge responcibility a day or 2 day's before results.
School teachers has to take one compulsary meeting with parents and students two days before anouncement of results and try to assure thier students which has this is not your final examination of life. if pass or fail you have to take sportiveley and increase sporting spirit in students mind.
For students If results is positive go ahead to search of future. If fail .. take it easy and try again . This is not your final or last exam

We need change in Education system. In Canadian education there is no rating pass or fail. Only grading system is used until.
Another point is marks are not made public like in India put on notice board.
There is no counseling or meeting between teachers and parents.
Much to my surprise one of Indian school in Dubai where my kids went in 4 years, I could not meet school staff due to their non-availability.
It is important part of learning process that teachers meet kid along with parents.
Even when I went to school in my village in India, my teacher never had time to meet my parents. It is too sad but it is a part learning process and motivation factor.
Also learning isn’t only counting on marks. Marks one is of ways to evaluate person base intelligence.
Also intelligent or high scores does not mean smart people ! Many of the failed students and low score students have become successful people !
I’m not hesitant to my scores in English in grade 10. Only 35 % but I did very well in Graduation and Masters (MBA).
Hence, what we need is motivation, dedication and hard work and pursing our goals! Again, never compare your scoring with another student. Unfortunately, even media makes so much publicity about high scoring people. This is totally unacceptable as they may be less successful and less productive in their performance.
Guys, please do not push your kids against the wall Leave them as they are! But motivate them.

it is a pity children come to a fast dicision without thinking there can be a mistake by the Board.if she was a bright student and got only 18 marks it cant be by God not correct.why the parents or friends didnt notice about her or what happened at home? its too late now. may her soul find peace now. but in future dear parents dont put pressure on children they have to struggle in school enough now a days as before.to be successful in life it is not a MUST higher marks.there are people who never visited high school but with hardwork and cleverness successful businessmen.I am sure when someone tries to findout really her marks were less or miscalculation was the truth will come out.and if so should be the person who was responsible for the mistake should for their lifelong live with this fault.

I feel the girl has taken a hasty decision.Out of all subjects she has failed in English. This may also be a possible mistake by the evaluator or tabulator who did the correction of papers. Today the students have a option for retotalling and they can ask for revaluation or challanege the results. These options were not there 15- 20 years back.If the evaluator has done a real mistake ,then we lost a bright girl for silly reason

Today children are so much under pressure of their family and friends, with respect to education, that they feel that failing in an examination, is the end of the world! They do not have enough courage to face the world and move on further in life. Failure in exams is not failure in life. There are so many great people around us who might not have fared well academically, but are still known as a respected person. Education is just a part of life, NOT LIFE ITSELF. There is much more to be lived and experienced. Committing suicide at such tender age is a sign that the parents haven't prepared children to face such situations in life. Let us guide our children not to put their whole and soul into studies and get depressed over failures, but to consider it only as a part of their life, and that their whole life is not dependent on it. We have so many uneducated people around us, who still live well inspite of having no education. They never thought of ending up their lives ! So, have confidence in yourself and grow up to be your best, in whatever you are good at!!!

Sorry to hear the sad demise of young student. it was too late for the secondary thoughts.
Defiantly it is a human error the valuation of the particular subject. Even the error rectifies who is held responsible for the tragedy.

Life comes to us only one timeSo it is very precious. None of us have planned to come to this world by our own Rather it is His wish Therefore he rules the world Then Why we dedcide for our end ? This is the Question we need to ask when things seem to be so hard & helpless & go for exreme decisions in our life. Let us hold on God when all trials come on our way.

The failure is the part and parcel of life.Good always follows after failure.I don't understand why the student nowadays feel failure as the end of life.I appeal to the parents not to put pressure on the children and special training in schools may be conducted in this regard. My heartfelt sympathy to the parents of the student.Thanq.

Sad indeed. What is wrong with these young children these days. Just because they failed in their exams they had to take such a drastic step which has brought sadness to the parents and all the loved ones. There were many more exams before them and they could have waited and passed. They did not learn that failures are success in life. Suicide was not the solution at all. Schools should do counselling to the students as well as to the parents before the exams.

So sad. Why these youths should be so coward? World is not going to end if they fail in their examinations. They have many ways in front of them to chose rather than ending their lives. I pity them. All parents should teach their children to be bold & to have patience in success & failure. My condolences to all their families. It is in fact very worrying news? Before come to a conclusion should think about parents and relatives? These examinations are not an end of world. We should always remember that failure is the key of success. God give strength to her family for this shocking incident.

Sometimes it's mistake of parents as well as teacher's to praise students beyond expectation. It's struck in the minds of childern's to score good marks..if not achieved..due to shamefulness go for suicide..!! At least children's think of there parents..before taking any extreme step..as still life is ahead to garb more opportunities. Just face the world..!! You have provided everything by God....better look other's who lost everthing..still struggling to survive...!!
