Mangalore: Mandd Sobhann camp for kids concludes with 137th monthly theatre

Mangalore, May 7: ‘Zollzollchim Noktiram’, a nine-day culture camp for children ulminated with a grand ceremony at Kalaangann here on Sunday May 5. The programme was organized by Mandd Sobhann in association with Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and ‘Raknno’ weekly.

Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor, Raknno weekly was the chief guest. Addressing the children, he advised them to practice the discipline and training received during the camp in their day-to-day life and utilize such qualities in developing their talents.

Roy Castelino, member, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi, applauded the children for their active participation in the camp and also wished them the best for their performances.

The main trainers of the camp –Anil Patrao and Lavita Lobo (singing), Nandita Sequeira and Shri Rahul Pinto (dance), Christopher D’Souza, Neenasum (theatre) and Rony Crasta (Konkani), were honoured on the occasion. Eric Ozario, the director of the camp, Stany Alvares, president, Mandd Sobhann and Rony Arun, treasurer, Mandd Sobhann – were also present on stage.

On behalf of all the participants, Hazel D’Souza and Alden Fernandes, shared their experience at the camp. The children of the singing category presented 2 songs which they had composed and tuned.

Certificates were distributed to all the participants of the culture camp. The best in each category – Evangeline Lobo (singing), Abigail Rego (dance) and Lester Menezes (theatre) – were honoured with a certificate, a bouquet and cash prize of Rs 1,000 each. Salomi Alvares (theatre) bagged the Best Camper Award and was honoured with a certificate, bouquet and cash prize of Rs 3,000. 

The children then entertained the housefull audience with various songs, dances and a play titled ‘Rayachi Novi Mustaiki’ ('Emperor's New Clothes') as part of the 137th monthly theatre, which began at 6.30 pm.

Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the concluding ceremony, while Shermon Rodrigues and Greshal Quadros compered the monthly theatre.
