Kundapur: Halady wins fourth time without BJP backing

Kundapur, May 8: The people of the constituency here have showed that they have been backing an individual, not the party, by electing three-time MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty, for the fourth time in a row. While the three previous elections were won by Shetty on BJP tickets, this time he has won as an independent. This victory has come with a huge margin of over 40,000 votes.

Shetty, whose forte has been to freely mingle with the people and participate in their jubilations and sorrows alike, had been a loyal BJP worker. He had not aspired for any post, was offered ministerial berth when Jagadish Shettar ministry was sworn in. Shetty reached Bangalore as per the invite to take part in the swearing in ceremony. Without any information, the berth was offered to Kota Srinivas Poojary unexpectedly, reportedly at the behest of a prominent politician from Kundapur constituency.

Feeling insulted and humiliated, Shetty announced his resignation from the assembly a few days later, and deserted BJP thereafter. The local BJP workers backed him to the hilt, notwithstanding warnings of the party leadership, and brought him a victory that he will cherish for a lifetime.

The fact that the BJP candidate, Kishore Kumar, could muster only 11778 votes as against 32,065 polled by the Congress candidate, Malyady Shivaram Shetty, and Halady Srinivas Shetty’s 63,182, speak volumes about the popularity of the winning candidate in the region.

Most of the people outside his constituency do not know how good organizer he is and what developmental work he has done to his constituency. Media is also not aware of the work done in his area. His service is not limited to kundapura only. He is equally powerful in byndoor, karkal & udupi also.He has supporters in Bangalore where if he tries, has the capacity to alterL the results by organizing his supporters.

Congratulations Mr. HSS and the people of Kundapur. You showed self respect to this constituency and upheld the dignity of a true leader. I wish HSS all the best to develope Kundapur and give good governanace the people of Kundapur. Now that Prabhakar bhat, Krishna Prasad adyanthaya, A.G. Kodgi and also that Eshwarappa got fitting answer to the insult made to HSS. I wish to see the comments of Deepak poojary Bangalore/ Kundapura who was barking a lot about HSS stating that BJP is going to win from Kundapur. HSS recognized under BJP banner and no party workers will support him if he leaves BJP any comments?

A true definition of " Solilladha Saradara "of Kundapur. When Halady left BJP I mentioned Lallige Kundapuradhalli BJPya kathe mugiyithu. People of Kundapur showed that they always elected Shetty and not BJP. You are the champion among the champions sir. Congrats to you.

True 90% may be idiots, but proof that not all people are fools. Halady can win without support of major-corrupt party. This is democracy - recognizing clean individuals and let them serve the society. Congrats Mr. Halady!

Congratulations Halady, See my comments and I know he is peoples man and he won.
Some Poojary/Shetty were predicting that this time congress will come last and BJP will win. I predicted in my comments that this is only one sided comments that blindly supporting BJP, and I predicted Congress will win with majority. I am not a congress supporter but the people of Karanataka studied the rule of BJP and they thrown them out. Even they know that JDS is not fit to rule, still people voted more than BJP. Please politicians learn that you are not superior but people are superior than you
