Mangalore, May 10: Addressing a press conference here on Thursday May 9, newly elected Congress MLA from the city south constituency, J R Lobo, said that he will lay high emphasis on maintenance of law and order in the city and fostering unity among people, curbing of drug mafia and moral policing, taking up a series of development programmes, and revival of Mangalore City Workforce to draw up plans for the development of the city.

“We will continue to execute the existing projects that are good for the city and in the interests of the people. The construction of district theatre, ‘Rangamandira’, which is in the limbo since the last two decades, will be taken up and completed soon. I will ensure that the construction of Thumbe vented dam will gain momentum, and footpaths are built wherever they are absent. My priority will also be to replace the old central market with a modern one. The city deserves a modern bus stand and I will ensure that it will get it,” Lobo explained.

The other issues which are gaining the MLA’s attention are construction of fisheries dock, sports complex, and tourism development.

Lobo said that he will put in conscious efforts to ensure that the party’s manifesto as released by Mangalore (south) constituency will be implemented in Toto. He revealed that a committee would be formed for taking care of the implementation of the manifesto, and that the progress review would be conducted once every four months.

He felt that as stated in the manifesto, it is possible to manage the finances without revising the existing taxes for five years, and he would work to bring an amendment to law to make this happen.

“The current integrated master plan of the city suffers from certain lacunae. I am committed to  personally discuss these issues at the government level and ensure that necessary modifications are affected. Under the ADB-funded underground drainage project, two percent works are pending, and these would be completed within three months. The scheme of the present government to provide uninterrupted water supply to the citizens will also be implemted,” lobo promised.

He added that politics comes into play only till the election is held and a candidate gets elected. He therefore, promised to take along representatives of all the political parties for achieving the progress of his constituency.

The press conference was attended by Congress leaders, Suresh Ballal and Mohammed Badruddin.

Dear Mr. J R Lobo, Allow me to congratulate you on your sweeping success with a full lead on your next rival in the election. As an Mla., you will be able to represent the pressing problems of your constituency at the stae legislature. Your constituency Mangalore South has been ignored by previous government and development has suffered. The state of the roads, foot paths, the water problems, the poverty and illiteracy were appalling. The present educational system is equal to illiteracy. Now you will be able to demand these things with a strong voice and repay the debt you owe to the native place. I am impressed by your thoughts or plans which you expressed by your answer to 'Daijiworld' representatives question., "what is your immediate plan for the development of the city? "All along.......capital to Mangalore." Here above while reading your statement..."under the A D B ...within three months". my thoughts shifted to my neighbor's (opp. Cascia High School.Jeppu.) drainage condition. The drainage gets blocked every now and then. This blockage polluted two to three Wells drinking water and made unfit to human use. Another neighbor who use their own pit system because they donot have near by Man hole to connect their drainage. Hope when these people approch you you will solve their problem without any excuse. I wish you all the best Mr. J R Lobo.

I am positive that there are 1 lakh people like me who would donate Rs 1 lakh for the community if our new elected leaders take their job serious and dedicate for the improvements of the people of Mangalore. Making Mangalore nr 1 city of India.
    Rs 1 lakh by 1 lakh people = ?

Infact 2 days ago, I sent a message to Mr. Lobo on FB nd mentioned exactly the same amount. One lakh contribution can be in the form of a investment/bond also. Experts in banking can guide us whether a city is allowed to raise funds. Upgrading government hospitals and providing quality care /education for backward/Dalit communities and help in employment, helping fisheries men and women/celebrating festivals of all different religions together/creating awareness about health, weight loss/exercise/cancer prevention/fitness center/self defence training for women for self protection are some of the areas I feel are important.

It will be a real success in no time.

However let the bureaucrats like J.R.L. and others come forward with a master plan that will really help change the region for a better tomorrow.

I would earnestly request you both not to donate money to any govt. projects, but pressurise the govt. to come up with guaranteed bonds similar to those of Resurgent Bonds SBI had successfully handled many years ago.

Lets us come foward to make our region the most outstanding landmark of our country.

The Mlore is facing acute water problem and the available source of wells are polluted with drainage water in major part of the city. So you have to take an immediate action to rectify the same and fulfill the promise to resolve water problem by rectifying the drainage system which will pollute the main stream of fresh water and also effects on health issue.

Congrats Mr. Lobo on your victory.
what we need now is good governance and make Mangalore City, the best city in country. Following are my suggestions:1. Create (MATF) Mangalore Action Task Force Committee like we have in Bangalore (BATF) comprising eminent citizens.
    2. Brainstorm Ideas and create workable master plans having life term of 2.5 years for infrastructure , administration, social development, environment, law and order, tourism etc.
    3. Review plans every year and if need be re-adjust those goal posts as per feasibility, but aim to complete them 100%.
    4. Last but the most important, Involve the common man and their concerns in all your plans, have a 360 degree view. Never ever stoop down to pressure, remember you were not elected by few who can pressurize you, but were elected by more than 60,000 people who have kept their trust in you. remember, they have the same power to re-elect you in future, no matter what pressure applied from a few.

    All The Best.

I am proud that Mangalore south Con. elected Mr.J R Lobo as our M L A and I have full hope that he will deliver what he had promised. We can foresee our Mangalore city soon will gain peace, harmony, tranquility and development. I can say these people who elected J R Lobo are awaken to realities like wide spread casteism , communalism, superstitious and other back ward traits that were blocking progress and keeping them (us) poor.
