Bangalore: JD(S) may wrest recognition as main opposition

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, May 10: In all likelihood, JD(S) will be able to get recognized as the main opposition in the state. The result of Periyapatna assembly constituency, where election had to be postponed due to the death of a candidate, is likely tilt balance in its favour.

At present, both JD(S) and BJP have 40 legislators each. When the number of legislators in two parties is the same, the total number of votes polled by them becomes the deciding factor.

As per the statistics, JD (S) legislators have secured total votes of 25,23,283, as against 23,89,513 mustered by BJP MLAs. Both H D Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy, dug out rules governing such a situation, and held elaborate discussions on this issue on Thursday.

At present, the final decision hinges on Periyapatna constituency. If either BJP or JD(S) annexes this constituency, the position of main opposition party goes to that party whose candidate wins from here.

The JD(S) also considered a few names for being appointed as the leader of the opposition in the assembly, as he will get the status equal to a minister. Sources said that the issue was kept pending, so that a final decision can be taken based on who will become the Chief Minister.

rakesh bhai and all bjp supporters.
actually, all of what has been reported since past few days is fake. these are actual results:

    1)bjp: 323 seats

    2)JDS :0 seats

    3)KJP :0 seats

    4)independents : 0 seats

    5)Congress : minus 100(-100) seats

so, if you add up congress and bjp seats, it is 223 seats total.
    bjp ge jai

    Naveen,
Your matrix is incomplete. Actually you forgot to deduct something. Now here is the rectified matrix.

    these are actual results:

    1)bjp: 323 seats

    2)JDS :0 seats

    3)KJP :0 seats

    4)independents : 0 seats

    5)Congress : minus 100(-100) seats

so, if you add up congress and bjp seats, it is 223 seats total.
Out of 223 seats Minus 187 seats
    i.e 223-187 = BJP 40 seats.

Though Mr Kumaraswamy and Mr Shettar have the experience of serving as chief ministers with the latter also having served as Opposition Leader in the Assembly in the past, it would be better if Mr Kumaraswamy becomes the Opposition Leader in the Assembly because he can be very aggressive where necessary unlike Mr Shettar, who is mild and soft-spoken. In addition, Mr Shettar will always be handicapped because he will have to answer to all charges of BJP misrule and misgovernance, not to speak of the corruption charges, even though he personally is clean and untarnished. In addition, if Mr Siddaramaiah becomes CM as is most likely, it is Mr Kumaraswamy who can take on the Congress government whenever it bungles as both know each other quite well as they were together in JD(S). Incidentally, Mr Kumaraswamy becoming CM by aligning with BJP and earlier the JD(S) stand of favouring Mr Dharam Singh during the Congress-JD(S) coalition in the fractured mandate of 2004 was one of the main reason for Mr Siddaramaiah quitting and joining the Congress.

Let us wait and see what happens.

Mr. Perinje used the word nepotism - which is originated from the phrase "favour to nephew". Look whose nephew was caught by CBI!

JDS was otherwise also instrumental in highlighting BJP's corruption more than congress in their last tenure. It makes sence that JDS would be a more effective opposition than JDS as BJP may need more time to lick their wound than think about opposition.

One of my frequent prediction was BJP will get THIRD place behind JDS!!!That exactly happened. In terms of vote sharing JDS had larger appeal than BJP!!!!Why this guesses not came to the mind of BJP leaders ?They in fact, forgot everything indulged in mismanagement corruptions and nepotism.A national ruling party reduced to third place means a big shame....Why not Joshi offered his resignation? It's DCM stood third place in Shimogga!!!It's immediate past CM's(DVS)bastion destroyed!!Why this disastrous performance..We predicted between 45-49 MLAs but failed to move from 40MLAs !!!!!...People of Karnataka Brought BJP to rule and they showed their true color!BSY sans BJP is a non entity in Karnataka and I think eventually BSY will join BJP sooner or later

Definitely BJP is slipping to third position. In terms of votes poll %age JDS occupies 2nd place and obviously it will be main opposition party in the assy.
For BJP it will be insult to injurey which truely it deserves.

Prabhu maam good for BJP. Anyways now they have nothing to do now. They can simply sit and watch the tamasha of Kangress and JDS. Along with that they have to seriously think about rebuilding the party now.
