I dont think its illegal, its just immoral. while we can punish ppl for doing illegal things, there is nothing in the indian law to prevent immoral activities.

secondly, we are the land of Kama Sutra. if u havent read it yet, please do. it gives a wonderful description on sexuality and behaviour, on how to get a wife, about prostitution and also about others wives. i think we should be proud of this book which is a part of our culture, and not deny that we are part of a very hormonally raging society that is India.

it is not simply that we are the fastest growing country in the world, and will be for a very long time to come. )

There was a suggestion here to provide employment to prostitutes.
There is no need to provide them that.
    That is their work\employment.
Only Government has to legalise it if these prostitutes want to run their trade as business.
They do not want to legalise it because they have to incur expenses for a place for such trade, various bills - like water\elec.\employment of bouncers\payment to Govt. officials in addition to registration expense etc etc.
In these cases - freelancing - does not involve various above expenses.
Once in a while they are pulled up - they are fined - they pay up with money or in kind and life goes on.
No office timings\no bosses to breathe down ones neck - bindas.
These type they do not want to do any other work than this trade.
It's an itch - to satisfy that itch they go about and in the meantime they charge too. Two birds with one stone.

Dear All, take out the communal poison from your mind. For your kind information I am not a supporter of any party. I always prefer a good candidate rather than any Political parties. I voted for Mr.Promod not for congress. He is a right candidate.
Secondly, what you are talking about leagal ? Why the ride on only Brahmavar hotel owned by BJP leader.? Come & see in Udupi & Manipal whats going on in most of the lodges. Don’t comments blindly.
Manipal most of the students living with their girl friends together in Private villas & flats. Is this legal?? After graduation they separate.
Recently in Mangalore, cow’s feet cut & kept in front of the Tulasi... Is it legal??
Even I am not against cow slaughtering legally. India exports cow meat, then why can’t local eat? Please note I don’t eat cow meat. Because as per me, why Goat, sheep, Pig & Chicken are allowed.
But here most of the comments are selfish in nature. Only they talk about religion & communalism.
Be matured & think twice before you comment .

    Shirish Kumar Hosabettu, Muscat,

it's people like you who do not understand the difference between legal and illegal, are the root cause of all the problems in Karnataka. Police raid is legal whether it's arranged by Congress or BJP. It's time you say good bye to your self proclaimed law makers. They can Rest In Peace now.

Yes Sir you are sooooo right - we need to learn about police and their rights, from you.
All this time people on this forum, without knowing the law were all the time blaming Police for their inaction.
If you had mentioned this way back, so much of useless talk would have been reduced here.
Also please advise on BD, Sene etc. also. Thank you soooo much.

Even police don't have any right to do moral policing. They can only intervene if there is some illegal activity.

I am confused..Three women were given warning and sent to remand home, women were said to be married.

1.Why were three women sent to remand home, instead of sending them to their homes after warning? What is the meaning of WARNING here ?
2.if women were said to be married, they shoud be allowed to join their husbands instead of remand home..

If Congress arranges the ride it is Law Enforcement, if BJP do the ride it is goondgiri..!!!! What a silly mentality.

It is shame on you people. Try to be honest forget about the parties, think about the poor people & real law & order to follow. All Political Parties are same.

Oh Yes Mr Kumar. If it had to be your beloved BJP who would raid. The police would be coming in after the telecasting on the TV. First the great teachers of culture would go bash the men, molest the three ladies taking maximum advantage of the situation. Open your eyes and see the difference. If you still cant get it, its a shame on you instead.

In an observation that will cheer votaries of pre-marital sex and live-in partners, the Supreme Court today opined that a man and woman living together without marriage cannot be construed as an offence.

“When two adult people want to live together what is the offence? Does it amount to an offence? Living together is not an offence. It cannot be an offence,” a three judge bench of Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Deepak Verma and B.S. Chauhan observed.

The apex court said there was no law which prohibits live-in relationship or pre-marital sex.
