Puttur, May 11: “In science, we may have achieved lot of advances. At the same time, we have suffered in terms of heritage and culture. In an effort to keep pace with modern ways of living, we have become like a tree that has lost its taproot,” observed Sri Mohandas Swamiji of Manila Sridhama.

He was delivering the benedictory address at the religious meeting organized as part of Brahmakalashotsava of Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple here on Thursday May 10.

He said that the country’s rich culture was protected all these years because of the efforts and contributions of scholars, knowledgeable people, sages, people who wrote scriptures etc. He warned the people that the future generation is destined to be doomed unless the parents inculcate in them an interest and respect in our ancient culture and heritage, irrespective of the fact that they are now leading a modern life.

In his religious discourse, scholar, Panja Bhaskar Bhat, said that offering of prayers to the Lord in a way as prescribed by scriptures washes away sins like bathing in the holy Ganges.

“Right from the Tantry who happens to be the celebrant of Brahmakalashotsava,  all those involved with the ritual including the sweepers and those who cleaned the utensils, will get the fruits in the form of blessings from the Lord for taking part in this holy task,” he explained.

Savanur Vidyarashmi group of educational institutions convener, K Seetharam Rai, presided over the meeting. Entrepreneur, Karunakar Rai, president of temple renovation committee and MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, general secretary of the committee, Chanila Thimmappa Shetty, president of temple governing council, Nanya Achutha Moodettaya, executive offiicer, C U Poovappa, and A R Chandra of Savanur Gokul Farms, were present on the occasion.

District deputy planning and coordinating officer of zilla panchayat, Y Shivaramaiah, welcomed. Secretary of volunteers committee, Satish Naik, proposed vote of thanks. Prafulchandra presented the programme.
