Bangalore: 47 'strong' aspirants for 33 ministries

Political Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, May 12: Soon after Siddaramaiah takes oath on Monday May 13 at 11.50 am at Kanteerava Outdoor stadium here, the next big hunt will begin for ministerial berths. Already, several aspirants have visited New Delhi to convince the big bosses of Karnataka Oscar Fernandes, Veerappa Moily, and others. Some are lobbying in Bangalore, visiting S M Krishna and other leaders who are close to CM designate Siddaramaih.

Ministry guaranteed ? - Ramanath Rai, Vinay Sorake, Abhyachandra jain

Out of the 120 elected MLAs, though everyone desires to become minister, in the initial list there were 100 names. But KPCC president Dr Parameshwar and Siddaramaiah have almost finalized about 49 names which required to be condensed further to 33 by Monday.

According to the Congress tradition, cabinet portfolios will be distributed on the basis of caste.

Reliable sources told daijiworld on Sunday evening at Bangalore that 6 ministries will go for Lingayats, which is the dominating community in the state, while the rest will be for Vokkaligas (4-5), Kurubas (3), minorities (4), SC (5), ST (3), OBC (4-5), Brahmins (1), Christian (1), Jain (1).

From the twin districts of the coastal region, Vinay Kumar Sorake (Kaup) is certain to get port and fisheries ministry along with the charge of Udupi district. Names of Ramanath Rai (Bantwal) on seniority basis, and Abhayachandra Jain as Jain community representative are also in the list.

U T Khadar and J R Lobo are also aspirants under minority and Christian quotas. But K J George from Sarvajna Nagar, a three-time MLA and T John, MLC are senior to Lobo, which could slim his chances. Similarly, three other senior muslim aspirants might put U T Khadar on the back foot.

As per the list received by daijiworld from highly reliable sources, 33 ministers will be picked from the following list:

Stage set for Congress rule in Karnataka, after 9-year gap

Bangalore, May 12 (IANS): Congress leader Siddaramaiah will take over as Karnataka chief minister Monday, beginning the party's rule of the state on its own after a gap of nine years.

Governor H. R. Bhardwaj will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Siddarimaiah at Sree Kanteerva stadium in city centre.

This is the first time in Karnataka that a chief minister will be sworn-in at a stadium as work on metro rail has taken up much of space in front of the Vidhana Soudha, the majestic state secretariat, the usual venue for such functions.

The stadium is about three km from Vidhana Soudha.

The other venue has been the lawns of the Raj Bhavan, about a km from Vidhana Soudha, which however cannot accommodate thousands of supporters of the 64-year-old leader from his home district Mysore and other parts of the state want to witness the function.

Only Siddaramaiah is expected to be sworn-in Monday as there are many aspirants for ministerial berths from among the 120 (excluding Siddaramaiah) newly elected Congress assembly members and several members of the legislative council.

Siddaramaiah, chosen May 10 by the party to lead the government, has said that he and the state Congress chief G. Parameshwara would go to New Delhi Monday to finalise the names of the ministers in talks with the high command.

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony Siddaramaiah told reporters in Mysore, about 130 km from here, that the party's election manifesto had made a number of promises and he would draw up a plan to ensure their time-bound implementation.

He sought cooperation of all sections of the society, including Dalits, as at a few places some Dalit organizations have organized protests against what they claim as "denial" of chief ministership to union Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, a Dalit.

"I am also a Dalit (in the sense that he is from a deprived sections of the society)," said Siddaramaiah, who belongs to Kuruba (shepherd community) caste.

Siddaramaiah said Kharge deserved the post but high command has given the responsibility to him and all should abide by it.

Kharge also appealed to the protesting Dalits to end the agitation. He told reporters in Bangalore that the Congress high command has taken the decision and now the focus should be on helping the party to provide good governance and not protests.

The Congress won 121 seats in the 225-member assembly for which election was held May 5 and voted counted May 8. The Congress last ruled the state on its own in 1999-2004. For nearly two years in 2004-2006, it headed a coalition with Janata Dal-Secular.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was routed in the poll as it won just 40 seats and is tied for the second spot with Janata Dal-Secular which also got the same number of seats.

Independents and smaller parties have taken 22 seats while voting will take place May 28 for one seat as polling was countermanded following the death of BJP candidate.

In previous BJP regime there were 5 brahmin MLAs and all got minsters post.
    1.Dr.V.S.Acharya
    2.Vishveshwara Hegde Hageri
    3.Dr.Ramadass
    4.Suresh Kumar
    5.Yogish Bhat
Yogish Bhat was 4 time MLA and Acaharya was a nominated representative.
Poor Yogish Bhat could not succeed in getting a ministerial berth inspite of seniority. After Palemars exist from council of ministers and also due to death of Dr.Acahrya there was minsiter to be nominated as Dist in Charge for DK dist.CT Ravi was then deputed to DK as DIC in from of 4 time senior MLA! What a tragedy! Now onwards DK people will not be humiliated like that.

Its indeed a sad day that educated people of Karnataka are going to be ruled by people based on their caste and not on their abilities and their education. The brahmin bashing is obvious for all to see. The first thing this new govt and its corrupt and undeserving ministers will do is fill their coffers, promote their kith and kin and loot the state fully and go about witchhunting the members of the previous regime. Their own infighting will bring their downfall, because voices of dissent are quite clear. They will try to increase the gap between various castes because that is what which will give fillip to their sinister design of clinging to power at any cost.

caste based choice is a norm and it will continue to be the norm in Karnataka Politics. The media especially the visual media is one big culprit to accentuate the casteist feelings of voters. The numerous debates that are shown in the TV before and after the elections, most of the time debates on the chances of minister ships based on caste & the community which the politician belongs to.I am sure in the next elections the people will start debating what the ministers have done to better the living conditions of the caste to which they belong to. open nepotism is an accepted norm. This sadly is the reality

    * Instead our education and discipline should go there for their benefit!

One major problem was most of the MLAs were either ex-ministers or multiple time MLAs. Consideration for induction is
    1)Maximum Districts should be covered
    2)All religions representation
    3)Community/caste Representation
    4)Seniority consideration
    5)Factional(group) representation
    Coastal district 100% sure are
    1)Vinayanna (UDUPI)
    2)Babiyanna (SENIORITY)
    3)Abayanna (DK)
    ...............
Corporation/Nigama Chairman From DK would likely to other senior MLAs.

"SIKKIDU PANCHMRATHA"Minister seat is not the criteria to serve the people .....

ANWAR MANIPADY,MUDA CHAIRMAN,COASTAL DEVELOPMENT CHAIRMAN,MINORITY NIGAMA and other CORPORATIONS filled with those who are not made it the cut out number of 33 MINISTERS.
