Kasargod: Four dead, over 20 injured in two separate accidents

Kasargod, May 13: Four persons were killed and over 20 injured in two separate accidents at Cheemeni and Keecheri here on Sunday May 12 evening and Monday May 13.

In the first accident that took place on May 12 evening, a bus rammed into an auto rickshaw head-on, killing two and injuring over 20.

The deceased were identified as Janaki (55), wife of P V Kartambura and resident of Karindala-Peringana, and Ashwin (11), son of Anup and Shanti from Kumble. Both were travelling in the auto.

V Ratnakumari (44) of Trikkaripura, C Srideviamma (67), P Kamala (42), Sushil (40), Sarala (40), Narayana (50) of Ballakadappura, Anand (10), Arun (12), Kiran (7), Sajith Kumar (20), Shanta (46), Muttai (61) abd Narayani (60) were among the injured. They were admitted in a nearby hospital.

The auto was being driven by Girish Kumar (31), son of Janaki. He was ferrying passengers Revati, Sarojini, Ashwin and his mother Shanti. They were also injured.

Six of the injured are said to be critical.

The accident occured when the private bus plying from Chemeeni to Kanhangad tried to overtake a scooter and rammed into the auto rickshaw approaching from the opposite direction. The impact was such that the auto rolled off the side of the road while the bus hit the protective wall on the edge. Anoop and Reshma who were on the scooter too were injured.

In the second accident that occured at Keecheri on May 13, two cars collided on the national highway, resulting in the deaths of two persons.

The deceased have been identified as Litty (27), wife of Digo, an Jose Vorkey (30) who was driving the car. Both were residents of Chittarrikal here.

Digo (30) and brother Ditty Verghese (35), a journalist by profession, were injured and admitted to Kannur hospital.

Litty was a nurse at a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She had come on holidays a few months ago. On Monday, she was on her way to Kozhikode airport to catch the afternoon flight to Jeddah when the accident took place. An Alto car approaching from opposite direction rammed into their Innova car.

The Alto was completely damaged in the accident.

Litty was the daughter of Thomas and Maria of Kottayam, and sister of Anjali.
