Puttur, May 14: The mortal remains of a lady named Girija Poojary (65) from Mannimar in Keyyur in the taluk was found lying in a roadside ditch about a mile away from her home on Monday May 13. It is gathered she was suffering from epilepsy.

Girija had parted ways with her husband, and used to reside with her brother. She had visited the local bidi branch in the evening, and lost her life while returning home. A deep gash was found in the head region of the body, and the place where the body was found had several blood stains.

As no sharp weapons or boulder were found near the body, it would be premature to conclude it to be a case of murder, the policemen said. Police circle inspector of the rural station, Suresh Kumar, rural sub-inspector of police, Jagadish Reddy, and other personnel visited the spot and undertook investigation.

Girija’s relationship with her family members and locals happened to be cordial, and her family’s means are moderate. She did not have any landed property in her name, and hence, the theory of dispute over property having led to her murder appears remote. Post mortem report may throw some lights on the case, the policemen hope.

The rural police have registered a case and undertaken investigation.
