Karkala: Demand for hafta, threat at gunpoint - Three Ravi Poojary aides arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, May 14: Three persons, said to be working for underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary, were arrested by the police on Monday May 13, for allegedly demanding payment of hafta from the operator of a stone crusher here, and threatening him at gunpoint.

Nitin Kumar (22) from the town, Guruprasanna (22) from Salethur Bantwal, and Somanath (27) from Guddeangady near here, were arrested in this case. The other accused, Siddique (24) from Bantwal Balepuni, has gone missing, the policemen said.

The four persons named above had reportedly visited the home of C M Joy from Mala village in the taluk on Saturday May 11. Joy owns a stone crusher here. They had pointed a gun they were carrying with them at him, before threatening Joy of dire consequences if he fails to meet the demand for payment of hafta placed by Ravi Poojary. They had then left the place in a car used by them for travelling there.

The police personnel, who got information on Monday that the accused were moving towards Karkala from the direction of Hosmar village, intercepted the vehicle they were travelling in at Pajegudde near Bajagoli, and made the arrests. The police have recovered a foreign-made gun valued at five lac rupees, a car worth about nine lac rupees, six live bullets, and mobile phones from the accused.

It is said that the accused had placed a demand for the payment of Rs 50 lac.

Joy is a Kerala-based entrepreneur. Siddique, a sharp shooter from Kaddayi, Balepuni, is the main accused in the case. Siddque, an auto rickshaw driver by profession, was an accused in the murder case of Banglegudde Sulaiman. Guruprasanna Bhat from Gurumukunda House in Salethur Kolnad runs a hotel in Sullia. Nitin Kumar alias Nitin Madivala, a resident of Varnabettu on Bhuvanendra College Road in the town, was working as a manager in a hotel in Bijapur.

The four accused reportedly worked under instructions from Kaliyogeesh from Udupi, said to be an accomplice of Ravi Poojary. Some reports said that the accused had also fired in the air during their visit to Joy’s home.

Karkala deputy superintendent of police, Devaraj K G, and circle inspector, Valentine D’Souza, had guided the operations under the orders of district superintendent of police, Dr Boralingaiah. Azmat Ali, station house officer of the rural station, town police station in-charge, Pramod, assistant sub-inspector, Alphonse D’Souza, and other personnel had taken part in the operation.

During their questioning, the arrested persons reportedly revealed that under instructions from Kaliyogeesh, they had made threatening calls to several businessmen, and had collected protection money from a few of them. The police suspect that this gang was involved with a case in which block Congress president, Sudhakar Kotian, had received a call for payment of hafta a few months back. A case had been registered in rural police station in this regard.

In china they shoot them by military police and use their ORGANS.
I n saudia- they behead them -rest is organic manure.
In Iran -they hang them in public.
In democratic india - freedom-at what cost?
Is there any fear of GOD or respect?
So the public should catch them and finish them on the spot.
as they dont deserve to live -we have too many people.
infact we should enroll every one in hardcore military training and deploy them on LADAKH Kargill borders.
In bombay even abeggar wil catch the thief and beat him out of shape befor e even the police will arrive eon the scene for FIR.
    Justice delayed is justice denied.

They caught with Imported Gun with live bullets without any license.

Prosecution need any more proof to book them under TADA and put behind bars for more than 20 years.

If they can come out with easy bail meanse Court allowes them to import more arms and amunations without fear and favour.

Believe me today morning I remembered this person when I read about another Pujary’s name published in Gulf News but on good cause since later is working as Director General in one of the Export House of India at New Delhi. When Congress comes to power, certain “C, D or P Company” will increase their presence in our Coastal area but other “Sene or Dal” will take back seat. Let them fight each other and die who cares but they should harm any common or poor public

Encounter specialist Daya Nayak is badly required for Mangalore dist. Otherwise these goons sitting in safe foreign countries will continue to make life miserable for decent people through their Criminal associates in D.K.

To my shock, just three days back I saw an advertisement in an evening newspaper of Mangalore wherein the Criminal associates of the late underworld don Pandu Pai were paying tribute to him on his death anniversary. It was a big advertisement.
See the unabashed behaviour of criminals.

Absolutely right Mr. Ravi Bhaskar Shenava!
These criminals have no fear of law because police will not be able to provide witness or evidence needed in the court!
    Criminals fear only encounter death!
Hope new Govt. will eradicate all sorts of criminal menace from the state.
These criminals and some highly corrupt Politicians lead LAVISH LIFE, both are robbers, when large number of people are starving for food and shelter!

Dear valerian, no point blaming police alone. The whole justice system is rotten. Tomorrow they will be out on bail. There are criminal-lawyers to help them. Govt lawyer does not break his head much on this (or may be paid not to use his brain much). Police know all these and become lethargic from the start itself. May be one or more of these goons may become public representatives in future too. We are living in a complete rotten system. About new Govt cleaning the menace I have my own doubts as actually it is not the new Govt but it is the Govt which ruled most number of years since the formation of the State.
