Mangalore, May 14: A special fishing ritual held as part of the 'Jatra Mahotsava' of Chelairu Kandige Sri Ullaya Temple was observed at Kandige Nandini river here on Tuesday, May 14.

Thousands, irrespective of caste and creed took part in the historical, devotional and fun-filled activity.

'Prasada' was sprinkled on this river a month ago and fishing was totally banned here till date. On May 14, after the puja, devotees joined hands and went fishing in this river.

The fish thus caught is prepared as curry and served to the 'daiva', with the performance of 'daivaradhane' rituals at home.

'Nemotsava', 'Dharma Nemotsava' and other rituals will be held in this temple from May 14. Kandige feast is said to be the last temple feast in Tulunadu.

@Ramesh S, Mangalore, I was of the notion that "AGOLI MANJAANA" was an imaginary character. Just googled him out of curiosity, to my surprise he was real. His deeds are unbelievable if it is true. Thank you for the info.
