Congress used Yeddy's shoulder to fire: BJP

  • Shettar is new BJP legislature party leader

Bangalore, May 14 (PTI) : Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar was today unanimously elected leader of the legislature party of BJP, which suffered an ignominious defeat in the recent state Assembly polls losing power to Congress.

BJP had projected Shettar as its chief ministerial candidate in the elections keeping an eye on the Lingayat community vote base but it was dented by former party strongman B S Yeddyurappa, also from the same caste.

Former Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka was chosen the deputy leader, state BJP spokesman Ayanur Manjunath told reporters after a meeting of the BJP Legislature party, preceded by a meeting of MLCs and MPs to take stock of the electoral performance.

Former BJP President Nitin Gadkari addressed the legislators at the "introspection" session.

In the Legislative Council, former Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is the leader and K B Shanappa his deputy, Manjunath said.

He said Congress had "fired from the shoulders" of Yeddyurappa against BJP. Yeddyurappa's Karnataka Janatha Paksha had split the votes garnering about 10 per cent.

Manjunath said Yeddyurappa's single goal of "finishing" BJP showed "bankruptcy" of his political thinking.

He said new Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had shown his "hasty tendency" by announcing a bonanza of schemes costing Rs 4,409 crore when the ministry had not been constituted. "It would amount to a decision of an individual, not of the cabinet", he said.

Manjunath said the BJP would strongly fight both inside and outside the legislature if the new government tried to reverse the pro-people programmes of its rule.

At the current scenario whats happening in the country a party like congress is winning is really really surprising and sad. They got all indirect support from Yeddy,Ramulu The poor work of BJP. They did not face proper opposition in many areas. Inspite of all advantages they got meager 120 seates. Clearly indicates People were really fed up of BJP and congress. Without above advantages definitrely definitely congress would hv never come to power . 120 Seats with all this indirect support is nothing boss. IF people really wanted congress they should hv got 150 seats

Looking at the pose of Ananth Kumar and Gadkari, it looks they achieved their target to finish off Yeddy rather than winning the State Election. Don’t start blaming anyone for debacle. Better concentrate on achieving Opposition Party Leader so that BJP too can start working like Congress to malign ruling Party and wrest the power back soon. Else Congress will waste the entire Budget of State for pleasing SC, ST, OBC and Minorities only

Instead of blaming Congress & Yeddy for its debacle in the election, BJP better introspect and correct their policies:
    1. Even in Orissa, after infamous riots BJP lost, there was no Yeddy factor!
    2. Peace loving people always look out for viable alternative to ruling party.
    3. BJP's own policies, hatred speeches against minorities and dalits and attacks through their splinter groups have alienated them!(It is anti national activity)
    4. We have to vote between
    (i) Corrupt party
    (ii)Corrupt communal party or
    (iii)Weak secular third party
unable to form Govt.on its own.
    5. It is high time, BJP alter their policies for their good and of the nation, rule like Manohar Parrikar of Goa, where minorities also vote them and be a credible alternative to Congress.
    6. Even Mr. Modi also realised and prevented attacks and stopped giving hatred speeches. He is taking corrective measures. Of course confidence building will take time.
    7. As long as BJP & its supporters doesn't realise this statement as truthful, and take corrective measures, there won't be change in voting pattern.

I do agree dat Congress is corrupt at d centre however they played smart..If u remember at d time of UPA 1 hardly u found any corruption cases & they did some development work to get the confidence of voters so that they get re elected again unlike foolish BJP govt in Karnataka..They got into power nd started looting from day one.. Nd they completely forgot the ppl who actually funded/helped them to win d elections ie Chaddi & Reddy Bros.. Just not power hungry nd greedy but also so so foolish nd stupid.. May be Reddy bros have funded d election with a agreement dat as soon as u form d govt we need d money back wid intrst dats y they started looting immediately LOL

How congress used CBI to target Yeddyurappa is no secret. Yeddy after the CBI inquiry, ran to meet Sonia in Delhi and came out in praises for Sonia. The writing was clear on the wall that Yeddy would split BJP votes then. As for Siddu, putting a burden of 4400 Crores on the exchequer only means that amount will be collected from the taxpayers and residents of karnataka in one form or other.

BJP had used Yeddy & Reddys to come to power themselves.
When he was implicated he was asked to resign, but no other ministers were thrown out of party though their corruption came to light.
If Yeddy was still there in BJP, they could have gained another 20 seats only.
Let them introspect why they lost Coastal Belt, their stronghold-
It was Cheddy rather, that hit common people hard- who showed them the exit door.
Loser leading them again- very well rewarded- the development mantra of BJP!

There was no Yeddy shoulder or shadow in the 3 coastal districts of DK, Udupi & UK where Congress got 13 out of 19 seats & BJP only 3! A similar story unfolds in many other districts. If BJP does not identify ALL of the 'self-goals' they scored over their 5-year rule(or misrule), it will be a cake-walk for the Congress in 2014!!
