Mangalore: Unidentified assailants attack, injure Swamiji

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 15: Two unidentified persons attacked Sri Vijayagiri Maharaj (56), who belongs to Srirama Giri Maharaj Kuteer in Badrinath Kaikamba in Uttaranchal on Monday May 13 night.

He was hit at the service bus stand at Nehru Maidan here. The assaulters reportedly took to their heels thereafter.

The Swamiji was treated at the government Wenlock Hospital in the city as an out-patient for his injuries.

The religious leader said the assaulters approached him at around 11.45 pm at the bus stand, and sought his cell phone. When he questioned the purpose of wanting his phone, one of the accused hit him on his cheeks. The two then tried to forcibly snatch his cell phone, the Swamiji said.

He revealed that he planned to travel to Dharmasthala, and was sitting at the bus stand, as he had arrived there late and hence did not get the bus. It is however, suspected that the assailants were employees working in some bus.

Pandeshwar police have registered a case. They have undertaken an investigation into the complaint.

Please don't connect everything to politics and please don't suspect anything fishy about swamiji being there at 11.45PM.
Even the Gulf bound airindia express flights sometimes reach mangalore 11AM instead of 7.15AM. What poor Swamiji will do when his bus reaches mangalore late ? If we are in that situation what we will do at 11.45PM in an unknown place ? There is no option, we have to sit in the bus stand and wait for the next bus to reach our destination. But theese thugs took the advantage and tried to rob the swamiji. Police should take strict actions against the culprits and not allow this to continue.

    Please Mr. Shetty -
Please read the first para of the above news. Will you please?
He is not a "lobo" swamiji you call as Byragi.
There should not be anything out of the way for him to travel by bus to Dharmasthala. He missed the bus and the next bus may be quite sometime later.
No need actually so many unwanted things about the Swamiji.
But those vagabonds should be caught and punished so that they may not trouble someone else.

It was 11:45 pm. He was waiting for a bus. Is there a bus plying from that point at 11:45 PM ? Something is very fishy. A failed attempt to malign newly elected Congress. Many dramas will follow.

This is very suspicious complaint by itself. A Swamiji at 11.45 pm, how come he was alone at that time without any associates or body guard.
secondly, he was treated at Govt hospital and is discharged.

Hope the real truth will come out.

Something is suspicious.Almost all the Swamiji's have posh vehicles and no swamiji's are travelling in common man's public transport.Secondly there is no one accompanied with him at midnight as he is not an ordinary man but Maharaj Swamiji. The truth will reveal upon proper investigation.

Hi Ismail - very worng opinion. You have always seen those Corporate Swamijies who go on convoys and they are not Swamies they are called to so but, actually those high flying Swamies are power brokers. This person might be a normal wanderer who have renonced the world. Actually we call them Byragi and they are indeed religious leaders of some saying. They need not need any followers going behind them. Anyway, do not want to give religios conotation for this. it can be normal robbers who tried to rob the sage's mobile.

Is it not another plot by the hardline and fundamenatal political outfits to blame the ruling party and create a wave of sympathy. By the way swami of such a stature left alone on his own at midnight that too at bus stand that too waiting to board the bus... something fishy.. such swamijis travel by car or helicoptes... there are no poor swamijis,,,all swamijis are rich and have too many people around them to support and transfer and care for them. some foul play ..

Lancy Mam, we can install CCTV cameras, but there should be uninterupted power supply. Like we have traffic lights but we still need traffic police bcoz some times no power and many a times people do not care for red lights.... like wise we need watch men / guards to look after the CCTV cameras from being robbed...so we have come one full circle and back to the same square...
