Mangalore: Trivial matter snowballs into fight - Man assaulted by youths

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (BG)

Mangalore, May 15: A resident of Katipalla Shamshuddin Circle was allegedly assaulted by local youths here on Wednesday May 15 early morning at around 5 am.

Abdul Salam, a newspaper agent by profession, was on his duty distributing papers early morning from 4 am. He finished his first round of distribution and started back home on his second round.

On the way back, he passed by a new mosque near Shamshuddin Circle, where preparations were going on for its inauguration scheduled for Friday May 17. The local youths, numbering around 15, were busy decorating the area with green buntings to give it a festive look. As Abdul approached the circle, a piece of bunting lying on the road got stuck to his bike tyres, but he could not remove it manually as his bike was loaded with paper bundles.

He then asked the youths to move the buntings safely to the side, so that people passing by that road were not harmed. However, Abdul's words offended the youths, who reportedly abused him verbally. But Abdul did not pay them any attention and proceeded towards his home.

The matter did not end there. As per the complaint, some of the youths followed Abdul to his house, and one of them barged in with a soda bottle in hand and warned him. Abdul was alone in his house at the time of the incident, as his wife and children had been to their native.

An argument arose between the accused and Abdul, and a youth identified as Zabiulla, aged around 20, allegedly assaulted him with a soda bottle. The youths then together assaulted him further and three of them, of whom two were identified as Nooman and Irshad, hit Abdul on the head with a teapoy glass. The accused also ransacked the house, it is learnt.

As the heavily bleeding Abdul fell uncounsious, the accused escaped from the spot. The neighbours, on hearing the noise, came rushing and took Abdul to Padmavati hospital immediatel.

A case has been registered in the Suratkal police station in this regard and investigation is on.

Mr. ISMAIL. K. PERINJE.......You dont know how many communal violence happened during Congis regime in Karnataka. We know that. But in 5 years of BJP there was no single incident of communal violence.

Your Right Murthi, there were very few communal incidents during BJP rule, because the big group fanatically minded ones did'nt want to malign their own govt. But they did thier best to attack students in the name of Morals.

How can you know? One of the parties may be instigated by some sena, dal or sangh supporters. Congress is very educated and cultured. They do not do such things. One can safely blame BJP.

The place worship meant to be for spreading peace & harmony among Society. Unfortunately this shameful incident is in the name of Islam and it's place of worship is really hard to imagine and digest. We the Karnataka Salafi Association Dammam condemn the attack on Br. Abdul Salam and request related authorities to take necessary action on the matter.

All human beings are brothers and do not have the right to assault another. Allah alone should show our youth the right path. These youth will have to answer Allah for this deed on doomsday.

Raj Udupi-There are less people commenting on this incident because people can see a conflict intended to garner a particular community votes as was happening during BJP rule and a simple conflict between two egoistic persons.People can also identify a conflict which disturbs peace and tranquility of society and a simple quarrel which involves violence.Bottomline is there are N number of people who are just happy that the bad days of BJP are behind them.

I would say if the strife was between people of different faiths, that would have created terrible communal strife. It is shame and disgusting to know that people involved in decorating went to assault the man. The culprits need to decorate their minds and souls first. May be they don't have soul and their minds totally blinded. This is no political issue, but religious! as simple as that!
