Dubai: Karaval Milan presents 'Shimti Nathlo Kolo' play on May 17

Media Release

Dubai, May 16: Karaval Milan’s ambitious ‘Konkani Mega Quiz’ is just hours away from being realized. Hailed as the first-of-its-kind Konkani programme in the gulf region, the Konkani Mega Quiz has already garnered huge support from various quarters.

While Konkani Mega Quiz will be the main attraction of May 17 evening, Karaval Milan, as in the earlier years, is planning to provide a complete entertainment package to the audience by staging Konkani play ‘Shimti Nathlo Kolo’ written by ace Konkani playwright the late Sunny A D’Souza and directed by Sannu Monis Boliye (Belle).

About ‘Shimti Nathlo Kolo’:

The play revolves around a middle-class family from Mumbai and their plight to attain higher social status. The ambitious wife of a middle-class man in Mumbai manages to convince her husband that working abroad would bring fortunes to them and their children. Accordingly both the husband and wife shift to Dubai in search of greener pastures leaving their children back in Mumbai with their close relatives.

But once they reach Dubai, they somewhat become so busy in earning money and making fortunes that they  even do not go back to Mumbai on vacation for nine years. On the other hand, their children who are grown up now, yearn for parents’ love and care but never find it. When they do not get what they want from their parents, they try to seek love outside home and in the bargain get spoilt. Yet over the years neither the parents nor the children understand that someone close to them has been successful in creating a rift between them by maintaining their distance.

Who is this ‘Fox’ (Kolo) and what happens to this family? Do the parents realise their fault and get home back? Will the children ever be able to unite with their parents and get out of their spoilt habits? Wait and watch live at the majestic stage within Sheikh Rashid Auditorium on coming Friday.
Program will start on 6 pm sharp. Gates will open at 5.30 pm.

About Sunny A D’Souza:

The late Sunny A D’Souza conferred with ‘Nata Ratna’ award was considered to be one of the best Konkani playwrights and his contribution in popularising Konkani in Mumbai is legendary. A well-acclaimed columnist in erstwhile Konkani weekly ‘Poinnari’ and then in ‘Kuttam’, Sunny D’Souza known popularly as ‘Sunnyab’ was born in Bendur, Mangalore on February 9, 1937. But it was dream city Mumbai that bought him name and fame as he wrote, directed and staged several hit plays. Two of his best-known plays are ‘Hasanatlo Tho Pixo’ and ‘Raktachim Zalim Dukam’.

In fact ‘Hasanatlo Tho Pixo’ has been successfully staged over 30 times in Mumbai, Mangalore, Mysore, Dubai etc. He was also the director of popular Konkani plays ‘Konn Jikta’ and ‘Kazara Uprant’. Though he lived in Mumbai for long, he had shifted back to native and lived in Shirva for few months before his death on December 22, 2010.

Since Karaval Milan is known for initiating and staging innovative, creative and often ‘first-of-its-kind’ programmes, there are huge expectations this time too both from the participating teams and the audience who are waiting anxiously to be the part of a programme which will script a new chapter in nurturing and nourishing Konkani in the gulf countries. Going by the current perception among the Konkani lovers of UAE, it is quite clear that all roads will lead to Sheikh Rashid Auditorium on May 17 as the extensively publicised show is expected to attract a full-house weekend audience.

Preparation for the finals of the Konkani Mega Quiz slated to be held on Friday May 17, 2013 are in full swing and the organizers have left no stone unturned in ensuring that their innovative programme becomes a successful brand in the coming years. Led by young, dynamic and creative president Naveen Sequeira and well-assisted by committed executive committee members, Karaval Milan is spearheading a movement that will change the description of entertainment in Konkani.

All in all the organizers are hoping that it would be a super duper Friday that will have plenty of entertainment to one and all. Karaval Milan has requested all to support their innovating initiative and stand by them in making this programme a huge success.
