Mangalore, May 16: Newly-elected  MLA of Mangalore South, J R Lobo, on Thursday May 16, visited Sudath Jain Shirthady, state chief secretary, All India Workers Union who has been staging hunger strike on behalf of DK district workers and employees.

The hunger strike is being staged to protest against various issues in the ESI Government hospitals and the problems faced by daily wagers and bidi workers.

The strike which was launched on Sunday May 12 morning, today entered the fifth day.

After speaking to J R Lobo, Sudath Jain said, "We have been protesting against these issues from a long time. Earlier in 2009, we had staged a similar protest in front of ESI Hospital. No representatives visited us nor responded to our problems. But I am very happy and grateful to J R Lobo as he has taken keen interest in visiting us and listening to our problems."

In response, J R Lobo promised Sudath to arrange for a meeting with the ESI officials, the workers' associations and the people's representatives. "All the issues and the problems will be discussed and suitable measures will be taken in this regard," he assured.

He said appropriate steps will be taken after discussing the matter with higher officials and the government.

All these years we have seen peoples representatives visit such strike get publicity & vanish. I'm surprised Mr. J R Lobo found time to sit next to him and listen, that too when all the MLA's are busy lobbying for ministers post. Good begining MLA Sir.

People have been facing acute problems for many years. JRL definitely wont be able to solve all problems. One has to be cautious while listening to grievances bcz some people might go on demanding without any reasonable boundary. Their demands may never end. If people come to knw JRL is there to help, then everyone would want to get solutions to their problems without really paying attention to details n complexity of issues involved. Dont demand for the sake of demanding. If problems are genuine, people have right to raise voice. But do not make an attempt to bring down a person in the name of asking help !! JRL is not a panacea. He has limitations and obligations too. Be sensitive to this particular factor.

Many trade/workers union leaders, once they get power, wil forget to do justice to workers. We have umpteen examples of such popular leaders - good for nothing. They use trade unions for their own glory and at the end they just make money. We see lot of lawyers getting into politics and achieve power. I do not understand understand why people are not able to see good people from non-lawyer professions ? Mangalore was kind enough to see this aspect and elected a service minded bureaucrat. A genuine leader must be a servant first, people are the real KING.

Well done Mr. Lobo keep it up. Hope with your intervention ESI problems will find some solution to the satisfaction of workers who are on hunger strike. Whether post of Minister will embrace you or not keep on doing good work as Late Mr. Srinivas Mallya went on doing good work like bridges, NITK etc., without the post of Minister. Support of people will give you encouragment to do good work for the upliftment of Mangalore City. Wish you all the best.

People going on hunger stike is a serious issue. JR is doing right thing by contacting them and try to resolve the problem. This is more important than attending the swearing ceromony.

According to me, Mr. J.R.Lobo is MP material and not MLA.

Thanks Mr. Lobo. You need to become a Minister so that you will have more power and funds to do good work. More than the tourism, Mangalore people need clean drinking water, good roads, govt. hospital, parking system etc. Hope within next five years we will achieve all these basic needs under your able leadership.

    Dear J R Lobo,

I have seen you in this channel attending lot of functions honoring you by different communities. It is time you started the work earnestly than attending the complex opening or community function. At Bejai ,there was a huge protest for the new market which is being constructed for the past 5 years. The local councillor has won and has taken rest. Even after your win the main leader of the protest might have gone for sleep. Also the demolished lady Goshan hospital is still idle. It will start raining from June and the poor drainage system in Mangalore is a cause of worry for all residents. So please discard the honouring function and start acting before people get fed up like the previous MLA

    Mr. Bollu
I did not see your comment. If you happen to see this comment, instead of commenting write few sentences to Mr. JRL. I heard and read he is a good person who can hear your complaints or suggestion. Try it. Do not stick to a particular party, stick to a particular person whatever the party he belongs.

It is good to see that J.R. Lobo has already taken on himself the responsibility to meet Sudath Jain and has persuaded him to give up the hunger strike and has promised to take the matter up with the authorities concerned and discuss the issue and come to a possible understanding.

Kudos to you Mr. J.R. Lobo on your initiative to resolve the situation.
