Mangalore, May 17: Newly elected MLA J R Lobo visited Thumbay vented dam here on Friday May 17 and conducted an inspection.

He visited the dam in response to complaints by citizens about water scarcity in the city. He inspected the dam and discussed the problems prevailing there with the officials concerned.

Speaking to the media, Lobo said that there is sufficient water in the dam to last until the beginning of monsoon season and that there will no water shortage in the coming days.

"From past three days there was problem of water scarcity in the city due to the failure of a pump and due to shortage of power supply. The pipeline connecting Panambur too has developed some problems, and so also a valve. Repair work has been carried out and water supply will be back to normal by evening. We are also planning to install an additional pump soon," he said.

On the long-pending work on the new vented dam at Thumbay he said, "The work on the second vented dam will be complete by March-April 2014. The contractors are delaying the work and it has been decided to take action against them. Steps will be taken to speed up the work. If they cannot complete their task on time we will find other contractors to continue the work."

When reporters asked about the acquisition of land for the new vented dam and about providing the compensation to farmers who lost their land, Lobo, said, "Land has not been acquired for the project, so there is no question of providing compensation."

Corporator Lancelot Pinto, MCC commissioner Dr Harish Kumar and others were present.

Good Job Mr.J.R LOBO. It is the routine duty by the elected candidates just to impress the voters.. By visiting dams once in a year will not solve the problem of water scarcity.. Instead they have to implement the raining water reservoirs. Government is allotting funds to store & to clean the ponds. so rain water will not run towards the sea. so the underground water level will increase.. but the elected minsters were just interested in visits & asking for more & more funds to fill their pockets...! WHY THEY ARE NOT INTRESTED IN RAIN WATER RESORVOIRS..??? WHY THEY ARE NOT THINKING ABOUT TO CLEAN OLD PONDS??? WHY THEY DO NOT INTRESTED IN BULIDING MORE & MORE DAMS TO STOP FLOWING WATER TOWARDS SEA??
I AM REALLY PITTY ABOUT MLA OR MINISTERS FROM UDUPI AREA..THEY ARE STILL IN DREAM & IN DEEP SLEEP...!!

We are really fortunate to have able, task oriented MLA J R Lobo for Mangalore City.

As I have mentioned earlier, it is the people who are KING MAKERS and they have elected able candidate. JR Lobo, we do know that, u have a passion to serve your constituency. Keep up the good work, deliver the promises and that is what we require from you.

    Dear readers,

    Mr.J.R.Lobo

Sir,Next time kindly visit the shortage proven areas rather than source. You need to take random stock how much water each consumer is getting the supply and quality.

The twin dist.is getting one the highest rainfall each year. Unfortunately the water management and poor planning are the main cause of the scarcity. Please give the priorities to dredge the ponds, lakes and wells.

    All the best.

Suggest Daijiworld to create forum where public of Mangalore, Udupi can convey the problems affecting their area to the MLA. This will be a very good move as readers can report the issues directly to the concerned MLA. Thanks Daijiworld for the all election coverage.

If we are getting water in this summer, it is because of Mr Yogish Bhat's efforts.Vented Dam is Mr Bhat's dream project.I still remember ten years back in the month of march itself we used to face drinking water problem. But now we are getting sufficient water. Thanks to Mr.Bhat..

I am in Mangalore since 1996.

Upto 2005, there used to be some water problem and on such occassions, we were getting water from tanks.

But, since 2005 we are getting plenty of water.

Shri Yogesh Bhat has visited vented dam on many occassions, but people are making hype of Mr.Lobo's visit.

Here people are accusing Shri Yogish Bhat falsely and will realise his value one day.

    1. It is evident that Newly
    elected, highly qualified MLA
Mr. Lobo, is taking his work
    seriously!
    2. He is taking note of problems
    FACED by people and addressing
    the same with concerned
    authorities. THAT is precisely
    ELECTED PEOPLES REPRESENTATIVE
    is supposed to DO!
    3. Problems faced by people
    bothers him more than
    Ministerial aspirations
    though he is highly qualified.
    4. Dear Mr. Lobo, while on duty,
    thank God for honest
    appreciation and carry on good
    work, appreciate constructive
    criticism for they are honest
    and IGNORE destructive criticism
    for they are DESTRUCTIVE FORCES
    ANYWAY for themselves and for
    the nation.They will dig their
    own grave!

The work taken up during the BJP rule is very slow with high cost escalation. The money could have been diverted elsewhere. There should be an inquiry.

Mr. Lobo Thank you for your concern and prompt action, I have a question for concerned authority of the dam.
    1. The dam water pumping system does not have a standby pump to supply uninterrupted water when the main pump is under repair or maintenance?
    2. During monsoon and after, the water is full of mud in it, hence cannot drink or take bath, but most of the people drink and take bath because no other alternative for them and get sickness go to doctors for cure and pay their hard earned money. My question is do the concerned authorities know these things? Is there any water purification system at the dam pumping plant.

As you said Ravi..there was water problem during last 5 years in Mangalore. That is because of Yogish Bhat. He was in deep sleep once got elected. And you don't blame people here. People have right to elect the person they want. If some fanatics want communal people, they are free to vote for communals. Sad to see the jealousy of some people. These people can't see good person doing some good work for society. But truth prevails. You cannot hide truth.
