Bangalore: New government takes shape - 28 sworn in as ministers

Bangalore: New government takes shape - 28 sworn in as ministers

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, May 18: At an impressive ceremony organized at Glass House in Raj Bhavan here, 28 ministers took oath at 10.35 am on Friday May 18. Governor, H R Bhardwaj, administered oath of office secrecy to the new team of ministers, who will help chief minister, Siddaramaiah, to rule the state for the next five years.

Ministers from Udupi and DK: Vinay Kumar Sorake, U T Khadar, Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain

R V Deshpande (Haliyal), T B Jayachandra (Sira), Qamarul Islam (Gulbarga north), Prakash Hukkeri (Chikkodi-Sadalaga), Ramalinga Reddy (BTM Layout), B Ramanath Rai (Bantwal), Shamanur Shivashankarappa (Davanagere south), H K Patil (Gadag), V Srinivas Prasad (Nanjangud), Dr H C Mahadevappa (T Narasipur), H S Mahadeva Prasad (Gundlupet), Baburao Chinchansur (Gurumathkal), Ambareesh (Mandya), Vinay Kumar Sorake (Kaup), K J George (Sarvajna Nagar), U T Khadar (Mangalore), Shivaraj Tangadagi (Kanakagiri), H Anjaneya (Holalkere), Sathish Jarkhiholi (Yamakanamaradi), and M B Patil (Obaleshwar), were sworn in as cabinet rank ministers.

K Abhayhandra Jain (Moodbidri), Dinesh Gundu Rao (Gandhinagar), Krishna Byregowda (Byatarayanapura), Sharan Prakash Patil (Sedam), Umashree (Terdal), Santosh Lad (Kalghatagi), Kimmane Ratnakar (Teerthahalli), and P T Parameshwara Naik (Hagaribommanahalli) were sworn in as ministers of state.

The ministry led by Siddaramaiah will have 20 cabinet rank ministers and eight ministers of state. The newly sworn in ministers are expected to get portfolios by tomorrow. There is information that some of them have already started lobbying for specific departments. It is almost certain that Siddaramaiah will retain finance portfolio.

It clear from the ministry formation that the chief minister has made sincere efforts to give justifiable district-wise representation MLAs hailing from  south and north Karnataka, and also to all the communities.

Umashree, a noted Kannada film actor, is the lone woman in the ministry. The chief minister has kept five slots in the ministry vacant.

Under the constitutional arrangement, Karnataka can have a 34-member ministry including the chief minister, that is 15 percent of the strength of the assembly which has 225-members, including one nominated.

Siddaramaiah had taken oath alone May 13 and spent nearly three days in New Delhi, along with state Congress chief G Parameshwara, to finalise the names of party legislators to be made ministers as there were large number of aspirants.

The Congress has won 121 seats of the 223 for which polls were held May 5 and results announced May 8.

The BJP, whose maiden rule since 2008 was marred by sex, corruption and illegal land deal scandals and dissidence, suffered a crushing defeat, and the party won just 40 seats.

The third major political party, the Janata Dal-Secular, also won 40 seats while the remaining seats were taken by small parties and Independents.

Voting for one seat, where polling was countermanded following BJP candidate's death, will take place later this month.

An effective leader doesn’t have all the answers but they do make good decisions based on input and information from others.
Asking questions, listening, and taking the time to explore possibilities is important in relation to this.
The more senior the role, the more complex the situation, and the greater the impact of judgments will be.
Realise you don’t have to have all the answers, acknowledge this and seek input from your team and others
Accept you will make mistakes and learn from these. Admit them but don’t repeat them.
Ensure you are seen to be open to the ideas of others.
If you disagree with others, communicate the reasons why.
If others disagree with you, don’t take it personally.
Listen twice as much as you speak.
Knowing the right question is usually more important than knowing the right answer .
    Never assume.
Don't get drowned on your glory & power.
    Your time starts now.
    Good luck and Jai Hind!

BJP has won so many such elections and by elections, but for secular party kangress it's like mangana kaiyali manikya. Now please advise kangress to concentrate on development works in the state and not to spend next 5 years in just blaming BJP. If not our state people will show their place to them.

May be the Governor is very happy man in Karnataka!!!. So what's your problem!!!. Can't you digest the people's verdict given for the congress party. As the old saying goes: "Every Dog Has It's Day"!!!. So the time for congress party & people to rejoice in Karnataka.

Why you have to say or give a taunt now to Mr. H R Bhardwaj (today's Governor Of Karnataka & mind you Ex-Law Minister at Center) that his duty is finished now and will happily go back to Delhi. Sonia will reward him suitably!!!.

I don't think when BJP was in the same position five year's back when they won the elections ( First time in southern India!!!) anyone has commented like what you are doing it today Mr. Dinesh???.

At Kundapura (Your Native Place ) Ex-BJP candidate fought the election this time by an Independent ticket and won with a huge Margin!!! It's people's mandate/verdict.

You must accept it and digest it too!!! That's Democracy.

Much observed "Media Centered" election by the "Whole Ccountry" and there after counting and declaring results... now today finally the ministers taking oath.

Let's wait and watch how the Congress is going to fare in the coming days/years... by their performance through accountability.

Mrs. Sonia Gandhi must and should observe their performance at least once in every six months so that these ministers won't repeat the same old story of the previous government ruled by the BJP.

Gopala Poojary is 4 time MLA from Byndoor. He is my family friend. Even some of his family members are well known to me.

But he is not capable person and illiterate person. He can't speak Kannada fluently. He is non-corrupt, but does not know development work. From last 10-15 years he kept himself busy in attending marriages, functions, kambala, garadi pooje, temples etc. Byndoor does not have a bus stand, good roads, fish market etc. There are so many volvo buses to Kundapur from blore, none to Byndoor..!

Problem with him is he asks local leaders for each and everything. These local leaders eat everything, leaving nothing to people. One such person is raju poojary. He spoils everything. Even if Gopal Poojary gets ministerial berth, he can't deliver the work. Chelas under him take the advantage. That is his biggest weakness.

You ask some development work to Gopal Poojary. He will never say NO, but he will say he will speak to Raja, Rani etc. This Raja, Rani always misguides him and fill their stomach. If he has to take permission from others, then why people voted him to become MLA? At least now he should understand this. People of Byndoor say GOPAL POOJARY is a very good person, but not the people under him.

Gopal Poojary is from my consituency, But I feel Hi-Command made a good decision choosing capable Vinay Kumar Sorake for ministrial berth from Udupi district. It is wrong to say if our MLA becomes minister, our constituency will see development. It totally depends on the CAPABILITY of the person.

Let him how many hotels he is owning and how many lands he has purchased recently, You are right, he is a honest worker. Even Pratap Chandra shetty won many times but he has not given any ministership. Only capable persons who can deliver the goods should be made MINISTERS. Look at the middleman in the 7th photo taking the OATH looks to be very old. Can he withstand the work load or he has to depend on others and being a minister only for name sake.
