Mangalore: High command will be stern with ministers making mistakes - Poojary

Mangalore, May 18: “People have high expectations from the new government and it is our duty to fulfil them,” said former union minister and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday May 18, he said, “All the MLAs and the high command decided to make Siddaramaiah the new CM, and we welcome this decision unequivocally. Siddaramaiah has already fulfilled two important promises in the Congress manifesto - rice at Re 1 per kg for the poor and Rs 4 as subsidy for milk - both these steps have been widely appreciated and welcomed."

He further added, “Twenty-eight members have been selected for the cabinet and state ministry. There are no cases against any of these members. The Congress high command has sent a clear message to all the new ministers, including the CM, that if they make any mistake, especially corruption, in the coming days, they will be dealt with a stern hand. This is a warning to them by the high command and all need to follow it on priority,” he added.

"If any minister ignores this warning by the high command and goes against the objectives of the party, people will teach him a proper lesson," he said.

"From DK district, Ramanath Rai, U T Khader, Vinay Kumar Sorake and Abhaychandra Jain have been chosen as ministers. We have made promises to the people by means of our manifesto before elections and it is our utmost duty to fulfill them in the coming days. We have promised that there will be no tax increments; hence there is need for resource mobilization. The chosen ministers and MLAs of the district have to see to it that more and more funds are put towards development of the city and hence help in making Mangalore a role model city. Central leaders like Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes are also equally responsible in looking after these aspects," Poojary said.

"It is the duty and reponsibility of the ministers and the MLAs to provide the best and completely corruption-free administration to the public in the coming days. People’s expectation from the government is quite high and we have to fulfill them and bring a major change as promised, and if we fail, people will never forgive us," he added.

“If we don’t work for the people, then the same lesson (as taught to BJP) will be taught to us also, because Mangaloreans are well educated. Don’t take the people lightly,” he warned.

Harikrishna Bantwal, Arun Coelho and Suresh Ballal were present.

Congress giving opportunity to efficient, non-corrupt, clean leaders is a bad news for BJP. If congress achieves confidence of people and does good to the public, then BJP will have to bute dust. Congress was clever not to add tainted people like D.K.Shivkumar, Lad etc. BJP is waiting for an opportunity to attack on congress.

By gone is the era, when people used to blindly vote for the candidate, whether he/she has performed or capable of performance!

    Dear Daiji:

I am really surprised to see Mr. Madhwaraj is left back from being a minister. When DK is given 3 cabinet ministers we got in Udupi only one Cabinet Minister Mr. Vinaya Kumar Sorake. Ofcourse he is the best too. We are glad to see him as minister as he is also an honest person. But Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj has done lot of charity to poor people from his own money. Let the high command consider and give him also a Cabinet Ministers post. He will not only work for Udupi, but whole of Karnataka and to our Nation of India. He is an outstanding person. I hope Mrs. Sonia Gandhi will reconsider him for the suitable ministry. God bless all our ministers, Mr. Siddhu and the AICC karnataka. Long live Indian Congress Party.

Dear Pastor E W Frank, if you demand for Ministry birth for Pramod then why not for Lobo. Atleast Lobo has vast experience in Administrative Works and qualified enough to take any Ministry for that matter. If you talk about Pramod, he is just PUC studied and very fresh to Political life too. Only qualification he has that he won with more margin compare to Lobo but that is not because he fought from Congress ticket, this is nothing but philanthropic works carried out by him right from his father’s era. He will be chosen forever by Udupi people even if fight election as BJP or Independent Candidate. For your kind info, he is ready to help any people irrespective of cast and religion if anybody approaches him for financial help

Whatever the credentials of Madhwaraj, he is a first time MLA.He might have done lot of charity work before but those works are purely for his personal satisfaction and he only knows the 'joy of giving' for which one can not expect ministrial berth in the cabinet.
If at all first timers to be considered for ministership then J.R.Lobo stands first considering his professional experience/clean record/personal likings etc.,

Hats Off to you Sir for giving "Mr.Namo" an "Open Challenge" and a befitting reply before the elections that if Congress Party loses in "Mangaolre in Particular", you were suppose to take "Political-Sanyas".

You said it and the people did it in Mangalore (Reposed their political faith in "Congress"this time.)

Looooong back......... Mrs. Sushma Swaraj challenged Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.....We all know what happened later!!! She didn't even keep her own word... after making so much halla gulla.

That's the difference between BJP and Congress Party.

If required congress must arrange a political counseling for all the "Cabinet and "State Ministers" that "Khursi" is not to make money. Rather it's to serve for the people's upliftment.

"To SERVE, and NOT TO BE SERVED"!!!. Hope Mrs.Sonia Gandhi is listening!!! and "Yes we have Full Faith in her Service to the Nation".

Hope people have watched it. Yesterday Suvarna News did a SMS Survey on "Is Govt's decision of giving rice at 1 Rs/Kg justified?". Only 24% said yes and remaining 76% No.

Until 6 years back, my family were holding BPL ration card. We were getting 30 Kgs of rice per month at 3 Rs per Kg. This rice was of very good quality. Even though we grow enough rice from our paddy field, we never missed this 30 Kg of rice because its quality was much higher than what we grow in our land.! (actually we used to send this rice to our relatives in Mumbai & Bangalore, since for same rice they used to pay 15-20 Rs)

At that time 3 Rs per Kg is not a big amount even for very poor family. Now this Govt's decision of giving rice at 1 Rs smells non-sense. This may end up in supplying poor quality rice. Instead govt could have given subsidized LPG cylinder for BPL families. This decision will cost around 3000 Crore rs per year to govt and govt is already planing to cover this amount by opening liquor shops. This Govt is all set to spoil poor families in village.

    Problem is with people also.
When people know how to agitate for their constitutional rights, why should people accept substandard quality of Rice or sugar etc from Ration shops?
Because people are accepting quietly, corrupts are getting encouraged!
People should even protest if quality or cleanliness is not maintained in Govt./ESIC hospitals!
Why should people accept anything substandard ?

It was Devraj Urs who brought in a different-level of politics in Karnataka and those who came to prominence under him such as S M Krishna, Moily, Kharge, Poojary, K H Ranganath, Narasimhamurthy. It was he who backed R K Baliga, the founder of Electronics city and approved the proposal way back in 1976, paving way for Bangalore's development. His land reforms ushered in a social change seen never before. Thereafter it was Ramakrishna Hegde, a staunch socialist who introduced another level of political thought and inspired quite a few. Leaders such as M P Prakasg, J H Patel, Jeevraj Alva and Sidhraramaiha etc were groomed by him and they are still considered to be tall leader owing to their ideals irrespective of their party. And now Siddramaiah has taken over and his cabinet looks to be different from the usual ones. In fact he seems to be such an uncommon politician. For sure he's going to usher in a new political era that will leave lasting impression on Karnataka's future. His cabinet team is a healthy mix of youth and experience and all are carefully chosen, mostly on their merit. Let's sincerely hope that this team will give a much needed change to the state politics without indulging in corruption, abuse of power etc.

Perform or Perish..should be the policy. Not only at State level but also at Central level. For corruption there should not be any difference between state government or central government, congress or BJP or any other political party. People know whom to vote and whom to vote and if required people can come to streets.

The state and the country has seen enough of the nonsense the politicians have done to this state. If they cannot rule and perform their duty, then they should resign. Minister post given is not for pleasure hunting but to serve the people. The politicians are our elected leaders and our servant. But we don't treat our leaders as servant but give them due respect which they have to reciprocate back with due respect. The voters are just not a thumb or finger that hits the voting machine every 5 years but they are valuable citizens of this state and country. Time to perform and not talk. Give us results. The city of Mangalore and Bangalore is suffocating due to unplanned infrastructure. The rot of 65 years accumulated is difficult to wipe out in 5 years and we need to do our work on a war footing. The People of this state should cooperate with the political and government masters. It cannot be a one way traffic.
