Udupi, May 20: Kaup MLA and newly inducted minister for urban development Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday May 20 assured that measures will be taken to supply water in areas reeling under shortage of drinking water.

Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office during his maiden visit to Udupi as minister, Sorake said that water will be supplied across the district through tankers and that the district administration will make appropriate arrangements in this regard.

"The district administration will take immediate measures to supply water through tankers across the district. This apart, funds will be released to dig borewells and undertake repair works wherever needed," he said.

"On May 22, a meeting will be convened with officials to discuss development works in urban areas, towns and city corporations. District administrations will be instructed to give a review of the development in their areas every month. As the election code of conduct was in place, there was a delay in the appointment of president and vice-president of Udupi CMC but a meeting will be called very soon and a decision will be taken," he said.

"I will strive for the maximum development of Udupi district. We will provide a corruption-free, transparent and active administration to the people of Udupi," he assured, adding that he will follow the Congress manifesto religiously and as a minister, try to fulfill the promises made by the party.

"I will hold discussion with senior party leaders like Dr Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes, and with their help, bring about development in this region. Udupi is already well-known in the fields of education, banking and tourism, we will use the available resources further and develop it more," he said.

MLA Pramod Madhwaraj and Pratapchandra Shetty were present.

Earlier, Sorake was given a splendid welcome by scores of supporters, well-wishers and Congress workers. Krishnaraj Saralaya, Narasimhamurthy, Janardhan Tonse, Veronica Cornelio and others were present.

    I second Mr. ISMAIL.K.PERINJE, PERINJE-YANBU/KSA's comment...
Mr. Sorake has all qualities of becoming CM of Karnataka.

Voters of Kaup constituency are really taken right decision by electing Mr. Sorake & restricting Mr. Vasant Salian not to cross 5000 votes due to his revolt for political gain.

If Ivan Dsouza becomes Chairman of Coastal Development Board which is the brainchild of JRL, I feel Mangalore is spolied forever and development of Mangalore wil be hampered with the presence of crooked and backstabbing personality like Ivan. But in politics, Bad people wil be rewared for buttering masters. I sincerely hope Suresh Ballal becomes Chairman of CDB.

MR Vinay Kumar Sorake is the tallest Congress leader in Karnataka who took challenge and risk to start his second innings of his political life with a bang.

I think his candidature d @ the last minute in entire Karnataka,we can put it as 'in eleventh hour'.He had little time to canvas and perhaps his immediate opponent might happy to have him as Congress candidate because Lalaji had two round canvas when Mr Sorake about to start canvas!!! .Media completely underestimated him in Kaup Constituency but he had confidence and optimism over his successful contest. Kaup voters amazingly trusted Mr Sorake over two time MLA Lalaji Mendon!!!

Apart from that Mr Sorake brought M/S Shashikala Shetty to congress fold and instrumental in awarding Congress ticket from Puttur which brought laurels To Mr Sorake. His political strategy of BUNTS-BILLAWA Combination worked out and both were winners in a constituency which said to be BJP/RSS bastion for long time!!

Through out election days when DAIJIWORLD brought article about Mr Sorake I was the one who argued that Mr Sorake not only win but also bring Cabinet representation to KAUP Constituency. DINESH POOJARI KUNDAPURA,who is hailing from UDUPI district in fact batted for Lalaji and underestimated my postmortem over Kaup Constituency !Congress not only won Kaup but made Kundapaura to loose deposit for BJP!!!!

Being senior political leader,AICC secretary, ALL INDIA Seva Dal Vice President,ex MP, Mr Sorake has good rapport with Congress senior leaders in Delhi including AICC President Sonia Gandhi. In due course of time Mr Sorake will adore CM seat of Karnataka. He is down to earth, humble good Congress worker(When he was denied Congress ticket he did not revolt)honest and no black dot on his long political career.I wish him very good luck in his new assignment and hope to see him as Chief Minister of Karnataka in future.

Dear david, without knowing the ground reality and truth, why you are accusing Ivan for nothing. Did u have any solid evidence what u have mentioned here, or did he harm you. Forget the rumors. There are many people are against him within his own community as well as within Congress. Reason is obvious. He is ambitious and no body can HIJACK his achievement like some vested interest group/persons are always hijacking with the strength of money power.

Where were these persons who are accusing him, when Ivan stood like a ROCK against the atrocities committed to Christians by goons, whether Sept, 2008 church attack, whether it is a issue in St. Aloysius College few yrs back, St. Agnes College issue , fighting against attacks on women, etc etc,
People sit in safe zone and now they want to hijack the whole credit. This is really sad and one should know the real truth.

Ivan will bounce back and will be successful in political life. Even once I was his ardent critic but when I saw during the utmost crisis in Mangalore against Christians and downtrodden his fight, during last 5 yrs,and it was he faught like a warrior. Like me, many like minded persons are supporting him. Hope this is clear.

We hope the new ministers in Congress will consider Garbage Management , Good Roads, Drinking water and proper Infrastructure with priority for each and every City in Karnataka. What we see in Bangalore is that all residential areas will have good roads and street lights. But on the Main roads in Bangalore and else where , there is no one to answer . Street Lights are not existing making a persons life difficult to drive , street lights are missing on the poles , Garbage emptied on ring roads etc.The BJP Govt did not do anything for the main roads in Bangalore to be developed except some flyovers at certain junctions. If the people in the Village are given rice for Rupee 1 and Cheap Good Alcohol , people in the City expect Good Roads , Water , reduction in pollution on roads , good street lights etc in Cities. Lets wait and see what Congress is going to give the people of Karnataka in the next 5 years.
